This lamp would make a great addition for any nautical decor room or restaurant. This lamp measures 21" tall up to the top of the light bulb socket. It measures 7 and 1/2" across at the bottom. The top light socket is in perfect working condition. It turns on and off perfectly. There is a smaller light bulb in the center of the glass. Early Unsigned Brass Marine Lamp #1
The first of two similar lamps I will be listing on eBay. They are not an exact matching pair. But they are close. This one measures approx. 10-1/2" high to top of cap and 12" to top of ring. It is all brass, NOT signed anywhere that I could find. Glass lenses appear to be the originals. The middle one has a little purplish tint from the sunlight, the other two do not appear to be made from solid color glass but show traces of the original red and green paint. There is no burner, as when I found it there was an old electrical socket soldered inside-which I removed. Overall condition is not bad. Lenses are not cracked. Approximately 6 1/2 inches long and 3 inches wide at widest point. Intact with nice chain and cover. The flint wheel produces a spark and the wick is in place and approximately 8 inches long. There is a screw adjustment for the flint. The handle has a nice rolling ball at end. We have never filled bowl or had flame in the lamp. We used this lamp as a conversation piece on our sailboat. Up for auction is this antique large ship's lamp that was made by the Wilcox. Crittenden Company of Middleton, Conn. U.S.A. The lantern stands 17 1/2" high and is 9 3/4" in diameter. The lamp has a beautiful 360 degree grooved red globe that is in excellent condition after all these years showing on one very minor 1/4" flick. The burner insert is intact with no burner included. The rust on the cage and body of the lamp is all surface with no penetration inside the lamp. The red globe alone is worth the cost of the lamp. Weighs 15 1/2 lbs. before packaging. A great find for the collector of antique ship's lamps or for the buyer who wants a well-maintained Wicox Crittenden ship's lamp with beautiful red 360 degree grooved globe to feature in his or her home, office, or boat.

The serial No is also engraved on the glass itself along with several dates(I guess dates of inspections) the earliest date is Jan 12, 1971. Antique Heavy Brass Nautical Oil Lamp Patents 1869 - 1877 2 & 1/8" Lip Chimney
Heavy antique brass oil lamp with a nautical dual wick signal oil burner having patent dates from to 1869 to 1877 on the knob. Signal Oil" was commonally used in marine applications because it was cheap and because it's thick consistency made it suitable to do double duty as a lubricant. NOTE; modern lamp oil. Vegetable oil, olive oil, Etc will work fine as substitutes for signal oil. Burner top lifts off for lighting the dual wicks, doing so reveals a spherical preheat chamber designed to warm and thin the signal oil in cold conditions. Lamp is dent free.
