This is a matched pair of antique marine lanterns made by National Marine Lamp Co. I think they were used to signal other ships but this is not my area of expertise. They are wedge shaped with one blue glass lens and the other is red. The glass is very thick and ribbed and in surprisingly wonderful condition. They each are also marked with"Lense Triplex Trade Mark Dec 20 1910" which I believe is referring to the glass lens only. The Red lamp is marked"MFRD by National Marine Lamp Co New York" and the Blue has an oval metal tag on the back that says"Geo. B. Carpenter& Co Chicago" I don't know why there are 2 different marks as the lanterns are otherwise identical aside from the glass color. I am assuming they were painted black by someone at some point but if so it has been a long while. RARE Antique New England Whale Oil Ship's Lamp With Blue Fresnel Lens
This beautiful ships lamp measures approximately 16in.x9in. and was found in a seaside barn in Massachusetts. The lamp has a heavy blue/green fresnel lens in two pieces joined by some type of fiber caulking. The body and lens cage are made from a heavy metal and are painted aqua-green. There are a couple of chips in the seam of the lens but is otherwise fine. The overall condition is fair with some rust and pitting that could be cleaned and reprinted if desired. There is no sign of wiring so I assume this was meant to be lit by oil. I have never seen a similar lamp and can find no maker's mark. This lamp was acquired about 45 years ago from the Maidoff Bros Antique Maritime offices in San Diego, CA. They are the foremost purveyors of marine antiquities in the world and have offices and salvage facilities all over the world.The lamp is a very rare double burner with white milk glass fluted shade and is in pristine mint condition. It has hung in my summer home in Michigan since its purchase in 1968. Vintage Starboard Ship Kerosene Lantern Light Lamp Port Blue Glass Brass 21" BIG
Vintage ship's starboard lantern in a unique tri-plex shape. One of the largest I've seen at 21" from base to finial. 11" x 11" square with the typical curved front. Thick blue glass(not an interchangeable light filter) with horizontal grooves. Brass trim and a brass finial with hanging ring. Great"keyhole" vent holes throughout. Suffers from an untidy paint job and is in need of some updating. Missing original kerosene lamp and has been converted with a light socket. Needs new electrical cord. Brass has a lovely patina and there is still some vintage kerosene soot on the inside of this lamp. There is a small spot on the bottom by a switch of some sort that corrosion has eaten through the metal. But it's repairable and not endemic to the rest of the lantern. Glass is free of cracks or chips.

This auction consists of the two glass dome shaped lenses. Seen in the pictures. These where located in a box with other nautical items, and as the last picture shows the LIGHT HOUSING{ not a part of this auction} is made by the same company as the glass lens. The identification on the red rim is S1085- 2R- and the blue has the word GRIMES B 5818. The* is not easily readable but something is there just the same. They measure to be 7 inches in length and have two holes for attaching to the light housing. Please look over carefully and if you have the correct information on these I and other e- bay followers would appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us. Antique Brass Ship's Light Contains correct and highly sought after cobalt blue globe. A rare find. Cord including on/off switch is in good shape. Works as it should. Globe has chip to the lip that sits between the housing and lid. This chip is not visible when lid is on and light is lit. Both sliding doors(front/bottom) are present which makes this an even rarer find. It stands 12 inches high with about a 6 inch diameter. Vintage Brass Wilcox Crittenden Conn Ship Boat Light Lantern Lamp Blue & Green
I do not know how old this lantern is. I think that it is old enough to be considered vintage or possibly antique. The oval plate on the back of it reads. Wilcox, Crittenden& Co. Inc. Middletown, Conn. U.S.A. It appears to be brass. Most of the photos make the metal look redder than it actually is. The photos where the metal looks like it has a very slight greenish tint are closer to representing the actual color. I have provided a photo of the bottom being held up to a light to show how it might look when illuminated. Not including the ring at the top. It measures about 9 ½ inches high. The ring at the top adds about 1 3/4 inches. It weighs about 2 pounds 3.5 ounces. The divider is removable. The condition is much like you see it in the photos. The burner is missing. Otherwise. It is generally in excellent condition. There is a ... morerelatively even tarnish and a little green oxidation on the back that you can see in a photo. I have provided a close-up of a bend in the edge of the hole for the burner. I do not know if it should be there or not. A close-up shows a small shallow depression just below the seam on the chimney. I do not know if it was made that way or not. Otherwise, are no dents in the metal or breaks or cracks in the glass. The inside and a little of the outside of the glass could use some cleaning. It looks like there is some soot on the inside of the top part. Otherwise, it is fine and as shown. Great set of port(red) and navigation(blue) metal and brass ship lanterns for your decor needs. The lanterns were probably electrified originally and are now electrified for home decor ... moreneeds. The lanterns still have the hanging rings on the top of them. The red lens lantern has a brass colored finish. The blue lens lantern has a nickel plated finish. The lenses in each one are glass and not cracked or blistered. Only exception is blue one which has a blister that runs about 1.5" across the top of it where it meets the metal of the lantern. The lantern cases are in good shape. They show some finish loss and some minor dings and dents. Each lantern is 6" tall. By 4.5" across, by 4.5" wide. The cords in the lanterns are older, but still look to be in usable condition. This item is an antique ship's lamp with blue glass. It is very heavy brass or bronze. Eight inches tall, six in diameter, this has not been converted to 110Va.c. I see no maker's mark, only the numbers 9-S-4461-L. The glass has two chips in it, one 1/4" and the other 1 inch.
