Sherwood Birmingham Nautical Lantern Lamp 12" Judging from other similar lamps/lanterns this appears to be a Nautical Lantern with some age. However. I can’t be sure how old this lantern is. The only mark to be found on/in the lantern is SHERWOOD BHAM on the turn knob. Since this company made both lantern burners and the lanterns, my assumption is the lantern is from that factory. The lantern still has an old wet wick in it, probably old kerosene, but it(the wick) will need to be replaced as it no longer raises and lowers. The knob turns, however. Height of the lantern is approximately 12” not including the bail, with the wire cage around the clear glass globe approx. 6” in diameter. The metal is probably copper or brass, but I can’t be sure. U.S. Navy 12 inch searchlight shutter, signal lamp, Curtis Lighting Inc, blinker
Ladies and Gentlemen. Presented for your approval is this U.S. Navy 12 inch Searchlight Shutter. This is the shutter you see on signal lamps used for manual Morse Code signalling at sea. Am I the only one who used to call these"blinkers" I was Army. So I'm not an expert, but if about a million WWII movies didn't lie to me, then what you do is you turn on the signal lamp, the Searchlight Shutter stays shut, and you actuate the handles to open and close the shutters, blinking" the light at other ships in Morse Code, and preventing anyone outside of eyesight from intercepting your signal. On my dad's boat. We just used a hand-held spotlight and toggled the on/off switch, but that's no solution for a multi-million dollar warship. I'm just being sarcastic-I think this thing is pretty cool. I got this from my ... moredad's estate and I'm just trying to find it a new home. I don't know how old this Searchlight Shutter is. It does not have a date on it from what I can see. I'm not going to pretend this is WWII vintage. I assume the Navy used these on at least one ship AFTER the war and continues to stock them up to now. This Searchlight Shutter is in good condition. Look at the pictures-the shutters work fine and stay closed until you actuate the handles. It is approximately 12" in diameter and weighs about 20 pounds. Note-this auction does not include a signal lamp. Nor a glass lense. It has some storage dirt on it and some mild surface rust here and there, but it is intact and functional. I assume it survived contact with salty spray and the elements, so it should survive whatever you throw at it. I haven't cleaned it off, aside from wiping it with a rag, but a little elbow grease with a rag or brush ought to have it nice-and-tight in no time. All items are sold as-is. Sales are final. The glass is marked“PERKO” close to the opening side and it does have a small chip which I tried to capture it in the last pictures(check out all of the photos! Remember.
