This auction is for a Antique Neptune maritime Nautical lantern light with oil lamp.This is missing the panel of glass that is where the latch side is. The total height is 15" tall. The base is 6" tall. The sliding oil lamp section is unmarked- it does original to the lantern. It has the Neptune tag on the front. This is fresh from an old New England barn and will need cleaning- I have not attempted to clean this up at all. The glass globe has a flake of the bottom edge. Unlike many of these lanterns this one still has the original Perko lamp inside as shown in pictures. The sliding hatch mechanism still works on this piece. It was used as a display piece in the house and they had a screw in the base of the signal to hold the sliding hatch open. This is a very nice antique early lighting oil lamp. The lantern has a satin paneled glass finish. It is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. The lantern with the glass chimney on it stands 21" tall. Without the chimney and including the metal burner it is 12" tall. It is 6" wide across the middle and is 6" wide across the bottom. The metal burner is in good working condition. Overall this is a very nice unique antique oil lantern and would make a great addition to any collection. Oil Headlight/Navigatrion Lamp manufactured by: 20th Century Mfg. Co. US Patent June 4, 1895. This is an oil lamp with a clear lens headlight, and a red& green(port& starboard) navigation side lights. This lamp is from the estate of a woodworker who restored old boats. Not sure of it's exact age, but the bottom lists several patent dates and locations.see last photo) The lamp itself has been cleaned and is in excellent condition, withstanding minor surfaces scatches on the plated surface, which is either silver or nickle plate. All glass, the clear lens and two side lens' are clean and in excellent condition. The wick is in good condition, and the wick assembly works freely to extend and retract the wick. The clear lens hinge pivots to expose the wick, and works freely as does the closure latch. There are some minor soot deposits ... morearound the base of the top vent. This old lantern is so rare it is off the charts! Marked M' By Perkins Marine Lamp Corprn. Brooklyn, NY. It is copper, and is 10" down each side, 11" across the back, and about 10" tall, not including carrying handle. Has a glass insert red on one side, and green on the other, top finial is gone, and top vent has some cracks in it so handle should not be used to carry or hang. Also has some old paint drops, back opens and electric bulb has been added to use for display, the makers mark is embossed on the back door. Vintage nautical ships lantern. Kerosene/oil. The piece measures about 10.5" tall and has a green lens. Also included with the piece is a spare red lens. The piece is complete, except for a wick. You can see in one of the pictures the interior burner unit. Overall the piece is in good shape, some denting. No markings that I can find.

Ships, yachts and homes along the Maine coast. Masthead light- A white light placed over the fore-and-after centerline of the vessel. Showing an unbroken light over an arc of 225 degrees, from dead ahead to 22.5 degrees abaft(behind) the beam on both sides of the vessel. On boats less than 12 meters(39.4 feet) in length, the masthead light may be off the fore-and-aft centerline, but must be as close to it as possible. The term"masthead light" is something of a misnomer. More often than not, this light is not at the top of the mast. On motorboats, it is often on a short staff at the top of the cabin.
