The bottom is a standard mantle front which we added a little interior lip to b/c our fireplace was a bit smaller. So you can fashion this around various sized fireplaces. The top section is a topper that sits on top and will need to be bolted/ affixed to the wall and rests on the mantle-top. The entire piece you are seeing here is 66" wide and 68" tall from the ground to the top ball on either corner. I see no detrimental damage to it whatsoever. It's clean and lovely.
