Tall mantels usually have a mirror at the top but this one has a bookcase with 2 doors. There are 3/4 round columns at the corners and a backsplash at the top. Unique piece! It is in its original finish. The finish has some wear as you can see. The top shelf has been painted brown on the top side only. A beautiful Quartersawn Oak Fireplace Mantel with bevel edged Mirror. Circa 1880. We are pleased to present this fabulous antique Quartersawn Oak Fireplace Mantel for your consideration. In the Arts& Crafts/ Mission style. The Mantel features a large beveled edge mirror above the shelf, along with a variety of decorative touches including attractive striping of the wood grain on the two vertical columns. The Mantel has overall dimensions of 82 inches high. 60-1/2 inches wide, and 14 inches deep. We estimate the weight at 150 pounds- two people can move it with effort, although its large size makes it somewhat torquey to handle. The mirror measures 17-1/2 inches high by 29-3/8 inches wide. The shelf is 44 inches wide and 7-1/2 inches deep. At the front. The opening for the fireplace is 39 inches high by 41-1/2 inches wide. At the back ... moreedge, the opening is 50 inches wide. Picture 5 shows where the"front" and"back" measurements were taken. Measuring from the wall, to the back edge of the"front" point, the depth is 5-1/4 inches. Faults are few and minor with this antique fixture. The silvering on the mirror shows only minor deterioration. With a few tiny black spots, and some larger areas of crazing where it still reflects. There are a few small burn marks(see pictures 3 and 4) but they only affect the surface finish. There is one noticeable bump to the front edge of the shelf(seen in picture 10) but it is not very large. Other than these issues, the Mantel is in fine shape. We rate the overall condition as very good. This is a gorgeous Arts& Crafts/ Mission style Oak Mantel. It would make a wonderful decorative piece for your remodeling project! ANTIQUE QUARTER SAWN TIGER OAK FIREPLACE MANTEL with COLUMNS CURVED SHELF 60"
PLEASE CAREFULLY READ OUR SHIPPING SECTION PRIOR TO PURCHASE We are pleased to offer this. Beautiful, antique fireplace mantel/shelf. The mantel is old(early 1900s) and came from a home in the St. Louis area. It is constructed of quarter sawn oak with an extremely nice grain pattern. It features a long and deep, contoured/curved shelf with full, round columns(not halved and attached to the surround) for support. The columns are fairly substantial in diameter and are also quarter sawn. They retain their original bases which are identical to their capitals. The surround extends above the shelf and is fixed so that the center point of the grain pattern aligns with the center of the shelf. The grain on the top of the surround changes directions at the mid point so that the grain pattern on the surround faces inward toward the center. The piece ... moreis untouched so that it retains the original flat nails/screws as well as the old, large dowels which attach the shelf to the surround. The top of the shelf is not as ornately patterned as the balance of the piece and has some stain runs/drips on it. It probably, originally housed a piece of marble. The shelf is deepest at its center section and is rounded on the sides above the columns. It is a thick piece and measures 4" in thickness. The opening, which once surrounded a mirror, is beveled and not simply flat. This is an incredible mantel shelf. It is in very good condition with very little evidence of age or use. There are very few nicks or scratches and the finish is very good. It measures 60" long. 31.75" tall and it extends 12" from the wall at its deepest point. The columns are 21" tall. They are 5.5" in diameter at their bases and capitals and are 4" in diameter otherwise. The shelf section is 57.5" long. It is 8.75" deep at the ends and contours to a depth of 11" at the center. When we moved this large quartersawn oak fireplace mantel, the packing material or newspaper to cushion ... morethe mirror in place is dated 1901. WE'VE HAD MANY MANTELS OVER THE YEARS. PROBABLY 2000 OR SO OF THEM. However, I have never owned nor seen this particular model, with the northwind heads. The top is hooded, as you can see in the photos above. The shelf under the mirror, bows outward for style. The northwind head, just below this shelf, WOW, is blowing up a storm. This would be the fancy applied carving. This is 83 1/4" tall, right at 5' wide. The very top shelf, where one can sit items of choice, is 57" wide by 9 1/4" front to back. The mirror is beveled, and is original, and measures, 35 1/2" wide and 17 1/2" tall. However, there is just a very small tad of discoloration, and the one spot at the top which is the size of approx. a quarter. This mirror just sits there and says, hi, sorry but I'm old. The bowed out shelf, under the mirror, is 45 1/2" wide, and 8 7/8" at center, front to back. The fireplace opening, is 41 1/2" wide x 39" tall. You can take 3 pieces of trim out and, it becomes 43 1/4' wide x 39 3/4" tall. The round columns are 3 1/2" across x 45 1/4"

There are some nail holes in the frame from previous installation. The mantel board is 55 1/2" wide. The opening for the fireplace is 36" height x 35 1/2" wide. The bevelled glass mirror is 35 1/2" wide x 17 3/8" in height. The mantel is in very good condition with normal patina. It is nailed to a 2"x4" frame to make it easier and safer to transport. I power washed the beam to remove that old stuff. has live edges. one side has some of the old lath nails. Up for sale is an absolutely gorgeous pair of Victorian mantels from a building erected in the 1860's. There is not a doubt in my mind that you will never come across a pair like this again. These are made from quarter sawn red oak which appears to be old growth. The grain and fleck from the quartersawing on these will take your breath away. Columns are solid. With carved ionic capitals, and the corbels for the shelf contain hand carved leaf patterns. There are many different carved molding styles present, and they retain the original beveled mirrors. These are an exact matching set. For being 150 years old they are in great shape. But they do show some wear. These would be best stripped due to years of being Murphy Oil-d. Description This is a great fireplace mantel that was salvaged from a Philadelphia Victorian Home. It is made of oak and is currently painted. It is 2 pieces. Upper and lower. The upper has a large beveled mirror with a shelf and spindle gallery above. It is supported by 2 turned bracketed columns. The top has a carved backsplash. The lower has a shelf supported by fluted corbels on top of ornate pilasters. The breast has built up moldings and round embellishments. It measures 48.25 inches wide. The upper is 34.5 inches tall and the lower is 46.5 tall for a total of 81 inches. The firebox opening is 30 wide by 30.25 tall. Overall it is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good scrubbing but will clean up nicely. There is a seam on the lower shelf that is showing. There is a center door with fixed panels to either side. All 3 have fretwork over glass. There are 3 simple corbels below the cabinet. It measures 54.75 inches wide by 82.75 inches tall and is 12 inches deep. The firebox opening is 38.5 wide by 41.5 tall. Overall. It is in good condition. There are misc. scratches and dings as it is antique. It could use a good cleaning. It needs to be polished up. One of the fretwork panels is broken and the glass behind is missing. This is a beautifully crafted Arts& Crafts style mantle and mirror from an historic home in Annapolis. Maryland. It has been carefully handled and is ready to be picked up and installed in a new home- it's one big piece that's perfectly intact, no scratches or anything.
