Fancy brass marble insert fireplace fender in good condition. Fender measures 58" in width and 10 3/4" on base from front to back. Fender has four marble inserts and two center marble decorative balls. One marble insert on left has a diagonal crack that has been repaired with adhesive. Panel also has some end chips as exhibited in photographs. Some brass overlay is missing. Fender is well made and quite heavy weighing approximately 50 pounds unpacked. THE FENDER HAS A PEDESTAL SHAPED BRASS BASE, WITH A TUBULAR SHAPED BRASS TOP BAR WITH CENTRE SUPPORT. AT EITHER END OF THE FENDER ARE VERY ATTRACTIVE, ORNATELY CAST LONG COATED BLACK SHEEP( THEY MIGHT POSSIBLY BE GOATS! WITH A BRASS CARTOUCHE SURROUNDED BY FLORAL PATTERNS AND RIBBONS. Wonderful old piece in very good condition. Leave as is or burnish to a shiny gleam! This fender dates back at least three generations in a family with some lovely antique pieces. Age and maker unknown. Structurally sound. With surface rust on the flat pan section and underneath. One paw screw is a bit loose, but the piece is well attached. I believe the vertical piece is solid brass. As a magnet does not stick to it. The flat pan section is some kind of metal- the magnet does stick. Gorgeous ANTIQUE Fireplace Fender / Surround - Circa 19th Century - Bronze/Brass
This is a wonderful antique FIREPLACE FENDER with unique features. On each side of the fender is a circular. Concaved and relief plate depicting the face of a woman. We believe this to be a 19th century creation and possibly older. Amazing details with ball finials and an intricately carved base. The scroll work throughout is beautiful. A lot of skill and effort clearly went into making this piece. This fender came from the Minor Hill estate in McLean. Virginia. If you google Minor Hill, you will see that this is an 18th century house owned by George Minor, Sr and Jr in the early days. This is also the house where Dolley Madison is believed to have hid during her flight to and from Washington, DC during the War of 1812. There was a recent estate sale at this location where everything had to go in preparation for its upcoming sale. The second ... moreto last photo is how the fireplace fender was found at the sale. We have cleaned it up using soap and water. The last photo is of the historic house itself. Excerpt from an online site: This house may have been where Dolley Madison stayed for two nights before returning to Washington. Located at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and North Nottingham Street in McLean, Virginia, the original house was reportedly constructed of logs as early as 1730. In 1770, George Minor, Sr. purchased the property and added a wing to the existing house. George Minor and his first wife, Ann, had seven children. The eldest, George Minor, Jr. inherited the house and occupied it during the War of 1812. The piece in between the two ends that would go in front of the fireplace measures 58 inches long by 3 1/2 inches wide. The two black cushioned seats measure 10 inches wide by 12 inches long by 14inches high. The whole piece is made of wood and then it is wrapped in polished brass. It has repousse fronts depicting men drinking in a tavern. Some light toning and typical crazing. There is a partial hairline in one post(see photo 10. Lower left side of post) Log holders are made of iron. The brass fender features 6 Longwy ceramic tiles. One tile appears to have been under fired or was effected by the heat source. This tile has darkened and the glaze softened with some flaking(see photo 4, center tile) Overall condition is solid and shows beautifully. Fender measures approx 60" long x 8 1/2" tall x 13 1/4 deep. Andirons measure 22" tall x 20" ... moredeep. We believe this set to be rare and is guaranteed to be authentic. To ship. Large Impressive Edgar A.J. Hooper 51" Brass Fireplace Fender with Log Holders
Here's an old brass fireplace fender. It measures a nice and impressive size of 51 1/4" in length. 13 3/4" wide and 8" at the highest point. It is marked on the center support piece with"Edgar A.J. Hooper Patent" On either end where the pillar type pieces are. There is a thin flat piece with two curved ends. We have no idea what these would have been used for except for logs or some type of long piece? Hopefully someone will know and pass much appreciated information to us! One of the thin caps/plates is missing off the back side end which we show in our next to the last picture to show you where we mean. the other cap/plate is on the other side. There are a few very tiny little dings in the brass along the front edge and on the top edge piece that sits on the floor. It needs a good polishing. Overall. It is a ... morebeautiful and unusual looking fire fender. it is strong and sturdy! It weighs about 18 lbs. before packing!

Lovely brass antique fireplace fender. Believed to be from first decade of 1900s. Originally created for a Fifth Avenue mansion in New York, the fender eventually made its way to Los Angeles before returning to New York in 2007, where it remains in a period townhouse. Lovely patina. 75 inches long x 12.5 inches deep x 5.5 inches high to top of rail or 11.5 inches high to top of corner finials.
