These are a pair of lovely rusted Americana Fireplace Inserts. This pair weighs 20.4 pounds and they each measure 19 and 1/2" tall by 7 and 3/4" wide by 20" deep. These items will be taken apart by their thumb screws for shipping. These andirons do show some rust and wear present however there are no breaks or repairs present. They appear to be made from cast iron however I am uncertain of the exact type of metal that they are made from. There is NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING PERMITTED ON THIS ITEM. Antique Brass 2 1/2" Canon Ball Andirons Fire Dog Irons w/ Patina 27 1/4" x 14"
Antique Brass 2 1/2" Canon Ball Andirons Fire Dog Irons w/ Patina 27 1/4" x 14" These andirons belonged to my wife's grandmother. I would guesstimate they are from the late 1800's- early 1900's. They are made of brass and iron. I'm fairly certain the iron is hand forged due to the inconsistency in the shape. The brass head piece has a 2 1/2" canon ball top& small ball feet on the ends of the legs. There are a couple of very minor dings on both of the canon balls as can be expected with anything of this age that was designed to be used. The legs were bent a little and I tweaked them a bit to straighten them out. Might need a tad more tweaking. As far as I know they have there original patina and have never been shined. They are approximately 27 1/4" long x 14" tall x 5 1/2" wide. The square ... morenut is rusted in place and will need to WD-40 or something similiar if you wanted to loosen or tighten. We took these out of our 1800's home fireplace when we had to rebuild the fireplace box. It looks more Victorian. Than from an old farm house but this family we purchased from rarely purchased new so I have no idea. I guess we never put them back, or someone packed them in our stuff when we moved. Our new home has a gas fireplace and they are to tall to use. They stand approx 18 1/4" tall. 6 1/2" at the widest point across the front, and 7 1/2" deep. THIS IS A LOVELY. VINTAGE(mid 1900s) PAIR OF LARGE, ORNATE'ANDIRONS' FIRE DOGS, FROM FRANCE. THE DOGS MEASURE 27.5cm HIGH X 13.5cm WIDE AND 36cm. THE FIRE BASKET SUPPORT BAR IS 32.5cm LONG.THEY WEIGH APPROXIMATELY 3 Kilos EACH. THE DOGS HAVE SQUARE PROFILE CAST IRON COLUMNS WHICH TAPER TOWARDS THE TOP, ON THE FRONTS THEY HAVE RECTANGULAR SHAPED FLOATING LOOPS. AT THE TOP OF THE COLUMNS ARE BRASS BALL FINIALS.
