This is a beautiful wooden case or box that has great patina. I believe this is made of mahogany. This measures about 13 1/4" across 10" deep and 71/2" high. This is in great condition, the sides open and the top folds back. I am not sure exactly was in here but because this case was made so nicely it had to be something they were proud of. The top handle is metal and all the other hardware is brass including the nice plaue on the front that reads D.E. Whiton Machine Co. New London Conn. It is the perfect rendition of an early 20th century showcase with the great thick rounded edge glass. Sliding doors in rear with mirrors, under storage space, a recessed black platform which would have protected the wonderful inlaid walnut veneered cabinet all the way around with really cool rounded front edges. Vintage Mississippi Glass Co. Salesman's Wooden Box Containing 35 glass samples(all Identified) Mississippi Glass Co. was founded in 1898 in St. Louis. MO. and consolidated with two other glass companies in 1903. Fifth image, No.3 depicts the Mississippi Glass factory. Box is made of Oak with dove-tailed joints, size is 10 1/2 x 6 x 5 inches. All glass samples are in excellent condition, no cracks, chips, or damage. This will be heavy to ship.

Antique Grocery House Display Case Salesman Sample Box Metal Handle and Cast Braces J U Slingluff Baltimore Md Note: All items in our store include NO sales tax to our US customers! Here is a great mercantile piece for your buying consideration. Recently acquired it at an estate sale. Would make a great gift or keep it for yourself. Beautiful old case that appears to have some history to it as well. The piece was acquired in Delaware County. PA. The Slinghuff family were a successful business family in Baltimore going back to the late 1700s. This wood case probably came out of either the grocery house. Dry goods or chemical company(Chesapeake Chemical Works) that either Jesse Sr. or Jr. were involved with from the late 1700s to latter 1800s. My guess is this piece dates to Jesse Jr. and it probably dates to the 1830s to 1860s period. As noted ... morethat is just a guess, based upon the materials used and how the case is put together. Any help in better identifying this case. It's age, and what it was used for would be much appreciated. Your identity would be kept anonymous. Thanks. This old wood case appears to have very old metal nails or tacks holding the top rail on to the top of the front of the 3 piece front case. Almost every side of this case has J. U. Slinghoff impressed into the wood. At some point the case was attached to a wall(4 holes drilled thru the back) But this appears to have been a case for a salesperson to have marketed goods from at some point in time. It could also have been used as a documents box, but me thinks not with the 3 piece front. Back of the case is not finished like the rest of the piece is. My guess is a more recent owner refinished it and did not finish the back side as they were the ones that mounted it on the wall. The back of the case is just as smooth and finished as the rest of the case which has me come to that conclusion. The inside rails can also be slid out and have the Slinghuff name impressed into them as well. Top slide out rail has a split in it for about 4 inches tha

I'm not really sure why the box looks the way it does. I thought at first the stain had come of of it but it still has a clear coating all over the box. Lettering on front is beautifully done in gold and latch on front still locks the box. Vintage Winship(highly renowned trunk/luggage maker) Case I believe it is a salesman sample case based on the half-tray compartment. It is rough. But I think that adds to the appeal. Beautiful RARE Antique Glass Store COUNTER DISPLAY or SALESMAN SAMPLE 14" Ornate
This sweet little thing stands 14" in height. It is 8" across. The depth of the base is 6" And is tapers up to 3" at the very top. There is glass on all sides of this case, except for the bottom which appears to be heavy tin. The original light green satin or tafetta-looking display insert is still on the bottom and can be removed. I am pointing to a flaw on a glass shelf in my last photo. I notice that the top shelf(there are 3) has thicker glass than the other two. The backside has a glass door. And two slender hinges. The latch, whatever it was, is no longer. But the door stays shut anyhow. See 2nd to last photo for latch. Top has ornate silver corners. Highly detailed in a repousse fashion, both on top and front.
