AMAZING Antique 1920s BUTTERFLY & Botanical Display in Wood Frame UNIQUE!
One of a kind! This is an absolutely gorgeous antique display featuring butterflies and botanical specimens mounted on wool and framed under glass in a beautiful 1920s-era wood frame. Nicely designed. The display shows three butterflies above a collection of tiny flowers and stems with two arching grasses on either side. The tableau is set against a background of cream-colored wool fabric and the entire piece is preserved under glass in a lovely wood frame with raised floral decorations. Amazing! The back is covered in dark green felt and has little rubber feet on each corner. So it could be used as a tray. It also has a wire hanger, though, so it could also be hung and displayed. With frame, it measures 20-1/2" wide and 14-1/2" tall. The frame does have a repair along the edge that is not quite the same color as the rest of the ... moreframe. Fortunately, it is on the top edge, so if you hang the display you'd probably never see it. Otherwise both the frame and the beautiful display itself are in excellent condition. MOTHS, INSECTS etc In my estimation it dates from around the late 19th/ early 20th Century. Circa 1900, but please make up your own mind about this. The cabinet measures approx 11 inches(285mm) by 8 inches(200mm) By by 2 inches(50mm) tall and is made from pine. It unfolds into two halves. Each side lined with a pin board. The original pin boards have detriorated and been relined with new cartridge paper. It is in good coverall ondition with light wear consistent with its age. There is damage to the internal wooden air seal strip at the back of the lower case, see photos) but no other damage or woodworm.
