I'm of the opinion it's much older or was constructed from older wood as the Chestnut tree was designated as extinct from the Asian Chestnut blight of the first quarter of the century. Antique Glass Cheese Preserver Canister, 1800's-1900's General Store-Kitchen
Excellent. Clean condition, no chips, cracks or rough spots on the base, and just a few expected tiny usage knicks on the bottom ridge of the top lid. The lid is marked with raised lettering, but it is faint. It reads"Sanitary Cheese Preserver, Remove Lid Daily, Directions: Place one third pint of vinegar and one tablespoon of salt in bottom, slightly dilute with water" The bottom of the canister has 1/2" raised glass bars to keep your cheese elevated above the preserving liquid. There are no dates on this particular jar. But I've had two others, almost identical, also called Sanitary Cheese Preservers or Keepers, and they were both dated 1895, so I'm assigning that general age to this piece. I'm told they were used in the old iceboxes in homes and as displays in small local general stores or mercantiles. The glass ... moreis thick, with some air bubbles within the walls, both on the lid and the bottom. The bottom jar measures 7 1/2" in diameter and is about 5 1/4" deep. With the lid and the knob it stands about 6 1/2" tall. There is a slight difference in the color of the glass.the lid has an amethyst cast and the bottom a greenish cast. I can just imagine the excitement walking up to a jewelry store window and seeing a beautiful necklace or pin displayed on these beautiful stands. I can combine shipping charges if you win more than one auction. These are from the early part of the 20th century. Some of them are missing their velvet insert but it wouldn't be too difficult to wrap and glue a small piece of velvet around a piece of cardboard and set it inside the ones that are missing theirs. The velvet inserts by the way that ARE included. Are stiff from age, but you could still pin a lovely brooch or earrings to the fabric. The color of the original velvet is a dark burgundy. Antique Primitive Store/Postal Counter c.1880 Presenting this beautiful solid mixed wood primitive country store/Post Office counter from an old country store in the valley of Virginia. This was used as the postal counter. There is a one large and sturdy drawer with the original pulls. It once held two drawers. The smaller one has been removed to allow for chair space. This is made mixed woods of oak. Maple, pine and poplar. The top is tongue and groove maple and the sides and back are beaded tongue and groove. The counter has been cut down fromits original size. It makes a great desk for tight spaces and also makes a fabulous statement as sofa table or entrance table. Maintains its original patina. Dates from the early 1880's. Antique Slant Front Store Counter Candy Jar Display Canister Bubbles in Glass
Antique large primitive store counter candy jar. It has a slant front and rounded back end. Sides. Top, and bottom have flat stops. It is 11" deep x 7-1/2" tall x 6" wide. It has many inperfections in the glass, ie, bubbles, wavy stops as old glass often has. It is a heavy thick glass. The rubber gasket to the lid is gone, if it ever had one. It is in very good antique condition no cracks, or chips that I could see, but there is some use rubbing and scratches which only add to its character. antique VT country store DYO-LA Dye CABINET Dual tin lithos AS FOUND w/contents
Here's a very rare find being an honest AS FOUND country store DYE display cabinet. Complete with it's 1920's vintage new old stock contents. It's just as it came out of the store here in Northern Vermont. This DYO-LA Dye was made in Burlington VT and came from the Scampy Dane Store in West Charleston Vermont where was on display there, or in storage there, for many decades until the store closed in the mid-1990's. The cabinet is made of solid hardwood and is cherry color and could be cherry wood. The ORIGINAL varnish finish shows some loss on the door stiles and sides but is definitely the original one. It measures about 11" by 16" and is 7.5" deep. This is a rare model having the tin lithograph panels on both the front and back of the cabinet. It sat on the store counter with the door towards the clerk ... moreand the customer could still see the panel on the front. The front panel in in better condition than the back panel. It shows a couple rust spots and limited paint loss. The front panel is about perfect. Both have bright vibrant colors. Inside the door is a big"SPECIAL NOTICE TO DEALER" card. The store this cabinet came from was a genuine time capsule that ran continuously with various owners from the 1890's until the death of Scampy Dane in the mid 1990's. This cabinet was part of that time capsule and it retains is full contents of various dyes. Included are about 24 little boxes of"Sunset Soap Dye" and about 20 envelopes of the original DYO-LA dyes. In a side compartment are the original dealers color cards, samples and advertising emphemera. It's kind of dirty and dusty, just as it came from the store and in storage since. A good cleaning will make the whole thing better I'm sure. The display cabinet is in EXCELLENT condition and would be tough to find a better example. $30.00 SHIPPING IN A BOX. We are not certain of its original history but believe it to be from the late 1800's. Comes with 3 drawers and 2 glass shelves for display. The drawers and shelves can switched from one end to the other. The front side is purely for display and the backside has a cubby on the right end that cannot be viewed from the front. Great for supplies. Just above the cubby a cash drawer housed with slots for different bills and change. Just above this drawer is a lid with a slot for receipts or whatever you choose. It can be lifted to gain entry to the receipts as well. Probably the most endearing thing about this counter is the fact that when you open ... morethe cash drawer a silver bell at the back"dings" This beautiful counter would be a great addition to your store or use it in your home to display your collectibles. This catalog is a booklet format of 24 pages plus the covers measuring about 8.75" x 4" I don't find a date on this catalog but it prints a few testimonial letters all dated 1923 so thus a 1924 date seems likely. The front cover reads: To Help You Sell More Hard Candy- ARIDOR Products This catalog has several photographic illustrations and provides detailed information on Aridor Candy Jars. These Aridor Jars were used in Candy Stores. Dime Stores and other retail establishments to organize and display candy for retail sales. Here is a wonderful old Oak Store Display Case for ribbon! No Reserve on this item! The front and back have 6 drop down glass doors each. For a total of 12 doors in all. The 2 sides each have 2 panels of glass. So there is glass all around! The case measures 38 inches tall. 29 inches wide and 11 inches deep. The old finish is original. The knobs are all original. As I mentioned. One of the little"stops" is missing for one of the doors. It is still working ok with one stop. The case is dusty inside. I wiped it off somewhat on the outside. RARE Antique Utilitee Super Lisle Web Ribbon Store Display Box Reverse Painted
I bought this display box in 1969 when the old J.C. Penney building in downtown Jefferson City. Missouri was going out of business to move into a newer building. The old building had the wooden floors and the vacuum tubes that sent payments to the upstairs main office to be processed. I have moved this box with me over the years and have only used it for display because it is an amazing piece of memorabilia. Now we are downsizing and I'm going to let this go. The box measures 7 3/4" tall. By 15 1/2" wide, and 6 1/4" deep. The inside contains slots that held spools of elastic and ribbon for display in the store. The lid is reverse painted with the Utilitee Super Lisle Web advertising. Over all the box is in great condition for its age. The left side under the lid, one of the screws has come loose, as shown in the photo. ... moreThat is the only flaw with this case. The glass does need cleaning for displaying. It does have the original hardware and porcelain knob. I think the pictures tell the story. In the 90s I took this to be appraised. The appraiser told me that it was more rare than any Coates and Clark box or spool cabinet that he had ever seen. He was unable to find one like it. And would not appraise it. Rare Corticelli 14 Drawer Store Display Spool Cabinet
The king of the spool cabinets not for the faint of heart. I restore antique furniture and have a backlog the hard work on this is done the layers of old paint have been removed except the small sections of drawer fronts which are just shellac all it needs to be finished is a little sanding some minor spot striping and a new finish. It stands 37 1/2" tall 20 1/2" wide and 18 1/2" deep. It has 9 spool drawers that hold 156 spools of thread or 1365 total and five larger open drawers for storage. The plate glass fronts are all present one was broken but I have a replacement cut and ready to install all the original hardware is present except one spool drawer pull which if copied from other present nothing major. Made of oak the top section has some dowel holes where a 1/2" oak wide advertising board went. Early General Store Wood and Glass Display Case Showcase made by Charles Bodach
I am offering for the first time some unusual antiques from my personal collection. This is beautiful antique Charles Bodach Company"THE LEADING SHOW CASE HOUSE" Chicago as stated on the brass plate attached on the lower center front of the showcase. The Charles Bodach Company manufactured showcases here in Chicago dating back to the 1860's. This case measures 82” long. 22” depth and 18” tall. The inside of the back 3 sliding doors have original mirrored finish. The glass looks to be original too as it has the old waves and scattered very small internal bubbles in a few areas. It has an old light blue velvet material on the inside bottom. The case was well cared for over the years as someone made the beautiful wooden 4 leg stand that the case is set on. The case just lifts off the stand. The height of the show case and stand ... moretogether is about 46" tall.
