Measuring about 6¾" in length- and flaring out to almost 1¾" in diameter at the open end- this wooden tube is an antique buggy whip holder. Together with the two original metal mounting bands and tightening screws. It is in excellent used condition, just typical light surface wear and some spots where the black has worn off the metal. - Antique - Dated 1882 Cast Iron Buggy Whip Holder
Old cast iron hanging buggy whip holder. With pat. dates, 1882, marked on the inside, and 1883, marked on the outside. Nice overall condition, a little dusty, and some surface rust, and most of the original black paint is gone. It is approx. 13" across, is two part, connected and hung by wire and chain. I have seen this also connected with screws, and also one half, screwed to a wall. A nice old country piece, from a Vermont barn.

Antique 1800's Cast Iron Horse Buggy Whip Holder Display Rack
This is an antique cast iron whip holder that would have been used in a general store in the mid to late 1800's to display whips for sale. This piece measures approximately 11 1/2" in diameter. It's old. Rusty and dusty and completely original. There have been no repairs or modifications made to the piece. There are no dates or makers marks on the piece. Many times these are found missing the nuts and bolts that hold it together or the chains have been broken. Not on this one. She's beautiful. This whip holder was recovered from an estate in southern Ohio. This would be a nice display piece as is or could also be re-purposed in many ways. The holder was used in the general store for displaying various buggy whip maker's samples. The rack was hung from the ceiling and the whips were placed in the loops. Prior to 1910 if one walked into any general or hardware store in North America. These devices would have occupied a place alongside harnesses and other necessary daily tools marketed for use with the horse-drawn vehicle. Because of the rising popularity of the automobile after 1910, most stores no longer needed these display racks which catered to the horse and buggy market and they fell out of favor. The buggy whip holder is circular and measures 13 1/4" in diameter. The buggy whip consists of three pieces which are bolted together and will hang ... moreby 3 chains from a small center ring.
