The folding bookcase is a medium-to-dark stained oak stand. At each end is an inset carved circle with a stylized design inside. The design has been stained a deep russet with a mustard and off-orange stylized design. This appears to have been hand created. As one end appears a little'brighter' in color than the other. These ends are attached to a long, rectangular frame, with carved'finials' on each corner. The two ends fold down flat, created by a screw mechanism found next to the outside finial. The tabletop bookcase is in excellent condition ... morefor its age, with a single chip of the wood by one of the inset designs. There is a smattering of light scratches on the bottom, which I believe would polish right out. I didn't notice until taking pictures that there is the number'1543' hand-written on the bottom. This is a beautiful, possibly hand created book stand, and reflects design elements from both the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau eras. The stand measures approximately 15-1/2 inches long, 5-1/2 inches wide and with the ends raised 5-1/4 inches tall. I would hate for you to be disappointed with any aspect of your purchase. Top Cap For Globe Wernicke Sectional Stacking Barrister Metal Bookcase
You are buying the top cap ONLY for the sectional bookcase you see in the pictures. I repeat-just the top cap. The base and 4 sections are listed in other sales. The top cap is 2 1/4" tall and 33" wide by 13" deep. It fits over the top of a bookcase that has an indented top of 31 9/16" wide by 12 1/8" deep. The rest of the description describes the rest of the bookcase which you might need to see if this fits yours.These never had doors and are slightly taller than the ones that you find with doors. Size is just over 33" wide by 13" deep by 17 1/8" tall to the very top. The section that shows when stacked is 16 7/8" tall. The very top of the cabinet is a little smaller so that the base of the next section can lock into it. The smaller section at the very top is 31 9/16" wide by 12 1/8" ... moredeep. I have 4 of these cabinets that make up the larger stack. You are buying one with the chance to buy additional if you are the first buyer. If you buy more than one you need to buy one-pay for it-then buy the next-pay-and so on. I cannot combine shipping and ebay will combine it by weight and their combined invoice will be wrong. As you see the total structure it stands 80" counting the top cap and bottom base. There is lots of wear and scratching/loss to the paint and they could use cleaned up better.Some have writing and old tape on them. One of the sections has 2 holes drilled in the right side that you can see in a picture. The one picture shows the top inside of the cabinet. The only piece that is signed is the top cap. There is rust on the base but not much rust on anything else. The cabinets weigh 32 lbs each before packing and will incur even more dimensional weight by the shippers due to their size. Up for sale is this barrister bookcase base and top. There is no label so I don't know the precise maker. The base is missing its bottom panel. There is some veneer loss/damage to the top along with other wear and tear, so please know that these are a refinishing project. The top measures about 34" across and 12" wide including the lip on the very top. The base is about 12 1/2" wide including the lip at the very bottom, and 34" across. The last photo shows how the top fits on a Macey D12 section, those sections are about 11 1/8"

It looks like it has been refinished to be a lighter color oak that could easily be refinished if one wanted the older red look to it. The metal hardware may be repainted? Here’s a 5 stack Globe- Wernicke barrister bookcase in beautifully figured quarter sawn oak. It’s complete with top and base. These are older turn of the century bookcases. The unit measures 69 7/8” high. 34” wide, and 11” deep. The labels read, from top to bottom: D 10 ¼-299, 108-299, 110-299, D10 ¼-299, D10 ¼-299. All units measure 11 ½” inside, top to bottom except 108-299 which measures 9 5/8” These are from my Mother’s estate and are in very good condition-probably close to 100 years old so obviously there may be a minor scuff or nick—but not many. All have the original wavy glass and brass knobs. Metal sidebands are naturally worn. The wood has beautiful patina and lovely grain pattern. Rare Globe Wernicke Top/Bottom and Two Bookcase Sections Imitation Walnut Globe-Wernicke information: Globe-Wernicke is by far the most well-known manufacturer of barrister bookcases. The Globe-Wernicke Company was created when the Globe Company of Cincinnati. Ohio purchased the Wernicke Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1899. The parent company, Globe, had been founded in 1882 by Henry Yeiser and is best known for their vertical filing cabinets and sectional filing cabinets. The Wernicke Company was founded in Minneapolis. Minnesota by Otto Wernicke, widely regarded as the inventor of the sectional bookcase, in 1893. In 1897, the Wernicke Company moved to Grand Rapids. Soon after the creation of Globe-Wernicke. A battle for control of the company began between Henry Yeiser and Otto Wernicke, resulting in Wernicke being forced out by 1903. ... moreOtto Wernicke joined up with the Fred Macey Company of Grand Rapids in 1904, the resulting company changing their name to the Macey-Wernicke Company, which began making bookcases nearly identical to those of GW. One unit is stickered D-10-1/4 and Grade 598. One taller unit is stickered 11-1/2 398-1/2 and the bottom unit is stickered 11-1/2. 598-1/2. It has a drawer on the bottom and four units that are two different heights. Not sure what kind of wood it is and there is an issue with the varnish on the side. This same wall has the beginning of a split. Which is slightly noticeable from the outside. The glass panels have dowel rods that allow the windows to slide up and down. Each side for the dowel rods is split and missing some wood. Still functions properly. I am not going to further mess with it but it could be repaired if you prefer but not necessary. Has the exact same finish number as everything else but appears slightly darker- mostly from the side. Looks good from the front. C) 2nd Level Bookcase- Makers Mark is Stamped- Brass Tone Knob* Missing one side of trim behind the glass door on the right side. Very nice early Globe Wernike mission arts bookcase section with its top piece. The case is in excellent original condition. The top piece that goes with it does have some grain lifting on one end and a circular ring stain near the middle. Both of which I pictured to the best of my abilities. The case is solid flumed oak.

Fred Macey "D" Quartered Golden Oak Stacking Barrister Bookcase Beaded Top
This is a ca. 1900 ogee quartered oak Fred Macey"D" Stacking Bookcase Top. It has the beaded trim! These are very hard to find and made only by the Fred Macey Co. from 1900 to about 1905. It has a golden oak finish. Measuring 12" Deep, 34" Wide, and 3" tall. The Macey stamp under the section reads"Macey Sectional Bookcase 4B" Its in overall very good condition with original finish. Condition: The finish appears a little"dry" on the sides(lost it's luster) And has a couple of the usual blemishes on the top. Note: in my last photo there is a small sliver of the inside board that is chipped. Right where one of the nails that secures the band is. I have the nail further secured by a tack so it does not fall out when the top is lifted off. The band itself is still very secure and not loose, still ... moreheld on tightly by the other three nails. All the hardware is original including the metal strip on the back that keeps the back plywood from loosing and rests snuggly on the bookcase section below. Shipping: Pick up or easily shipped for a flat shipping cost of $25 to the Lower 48. I do not ship these outside of the Lower 48 states and no international shipping. This top matches to the other three sections I have listed.
