The finish is in excellent condition. Original wavy glass has survived in three separate panes in the lift up door of each section. The small Oak legs measures approximately 6-1/2" tall x 1-1/2" x 1-1/2" they are slotted differently. The other leg base parts are 10-1/4" x 2" x 2" 12-1/4" x 1-3/4" x 1-3/4" Original finish, sold As-Is. These do have damage, see pictures. Great for project. Antique Bookcase BARRISTER BOOKCASE GLOBE WERNIEKE 4 SECTIONS SOLID OAK Offered is a nice bookcase with lift-up and slide-in glass doors which are all in working condition. Each section is marked with the Globe Werneike trade mark. It is solid and sturdy. It stands evenly on the floor. The windows have antique wavy glass and there are NO breaks. The bookcase is a step-back bookcase- meaning the bottom section is deeper then the rest and extends forward. This is a nice feature for storing larger books. The only other detail is the rear of the bookcase it is not attractive. No explanation- it's just that way- some sections of the laminate backing have opened. We were going to give the back a coat of varnish but never did. We are no longer cleaning up furniture- we are clearing out our inventory. I can't say how long we have had these bookcases but can say they are a quality set and will have a major effect on a room when it comes to decorating. They can't help but get a lot of attention. I have this spare piece of American craftsmanship available your the person needing a better top piece to fit his 100 year old Bookcase or a extra piece for the avid collector. I took 12 great pictures for detailed looks and the measurements are as accurate as I can get. The(12 1/4inch)is the length of the locking channel cast iron piece as seen in picture 7. Original finish in good shape. Does have some chips and scratches that a little tlc would improve on but very usable as is. There is a crack in one glass. Will replace as part of the sale price. Antique Barrister Bookcase 4 Stacking Bookcases With Bottom Drawer
Up for auction is a lovely antique barrister stacking bookcase. This lovely piece has 4 stacking bookcases. With one drawer on the bottom. The piece measures 34" wide, 57.5" tall, and 11" deep. All the cases slide open with ease still. One of the cases has a small chip along the edge of the glass, the chip does not go all the way through the glass however. There is normal wear and tear on this piece given the age and use, but only minor wear and scratches. I have shown various pictures of the like. There are holes drilled into the back of one of the cases with writing, it is also shown in the pictures. The drawer is missing the bottom of it as well. Let me know if there are any other questions. This auction is for a beautiful set of 5 stack bookshelves made by the Globe-Wernicke Co in Cincinnati. Ohio. The set is in very good condition and each door opens and works very well. I bought the set about 20 years ago in an antique store so I don't know any actual history, but the hardware and small brass knobs on the doors seems to be original. Each door has beveled glass and the brass strappings on the ends are in good condition. There are labels from the manufacturer on the back wall of each shelf, some more faded than others due to age. The overall height, including the base, is 82 inches. Each case is 11 1/2 inches deep, 34 1/2 inches wide and is 13 1/2 inches high. The set is pictured in my home and as is evident in the photos. Rare 3/4 width. 25" wide. 51" tall, 13"deep. Four bookcase sections 11" tall, base,and top. Inside is great orginial finish, Outside was stripped, sanded, stained, 3 coats of spray poly, sanded with 400 grit and waxed. This is a fine furnture grade mahogany bookcase. ANTIQUE OAK GLOBE WERNICKE/MACY'S BARRISTER BOOKCASE SECTION Offered is a nice ANTIQUE OAK GLOBE WERNICKE OR MACY'S BARRISTER BOOKCASE SECTION. The section is not marked. The glass looks to be original and is intact. The piece was cared for well by the previous owner. But has some condition issues(small marks/scratches, chips in wood/veneer, the veneer on the back of the bookcase is warping/peeling off a bit and damaged, crack in the veneer on the side, pull slightly bent; see photos) It appears that the back has been replaced, so that is why the tag is missing. Having just been restored by my very experienced restorer(50 years) it is consequently in excellent condition and is ready for immediate use in the home or for retailing in a prestigious showroom or fair. The second thing that strikes you about this bookcase is the colour and patination. The cabinetmaker that made this bookcase chose some very good quality timbers for the job. This has resulted all these years later in a bookcase with a gorgeous soft rich warm colour and patination that can only be attained by mahogany of this age and quality. Thirdly are the proportions. The design of this bookcase is just right and the bookcase benefits from having a good balance.
