I think the wood could be walnut the more I look at it in this dark finish. The overall size is 21 inches square and 35 inches high overall. Each section is 10 inches wide, 7 inches deep, 11 inches high and 12 inches high on the bottom shelf. It is missing a few of the brass tacks, but overall it is complete. Rosewood, applewood- to create a beautiful affect. The fruitwoods are softer hence there use as inlay within the harder mahogany. The level of the craftmanship on these is absolutely superb, both strucurally in that they are very solid, and also with the intricacy of the inlay. Made of wood(believed to be Walnut) The unit features a variety of ornate touches including turned wood uprights and finials, and decorative shelf back trim. The unit measures 54 inches high. 30 inches wide, and 10-3/4 inches deep, and weighs 14 pounds 9 ounces. We did not find any marks on the piece that identified the manufacturer. Not unusual on pieces of this age. The upright pieces have loosened over time and need to be tightened to prevent the unit from being wobbly. Over the years the walnut has developed a lovely patina and has been naturally distressed for a charming rustic look. Simple brass hardware provides ... morea lovely compliment to the color of the bookcase. On the upper and lower cabinet doors the drop pulls act as door knobs. Turning to open the doors. Both of these sets of doors lock and one key is included. Behind the wavy glass antique doors are three shelves. The bottom two are stationary but the top shelf adjusts via a brass pin and hole system. The shelf depth inside the upper cabinet is 10.75″ As mentioned this piece was made by the company Waring& Gillows. A company known throughout England for creating quality, luxury furniture pieces. Being made around 1900 would have been just after the time that the two original companies(Gillows of Lancaster and Waring of Liverpool) joined. As you will see in the pictures the number 47843 has been stamped in the side of one drawer. Overall this antique English walnut bookcase is in good condition. As mentioned it has been naturally distressed over its life and sports dings. Dents, and stains all over. The close up pictures provided give you a good sampling of this. This set was actually in a Lawyer's office, just like you see it. Lycoming was a division of Globe Wernicke and I believe that these are all Lycoming sections. They will fit each other perfectly well, so you could add to your existing bookcase. This four section set measures 59 inches tall by 33 inches wide by 13 inches deep. The inside of the bookcase sections measure approximately 31 1/2 inches wide by 12 inches tall. The over all condition is pretty decent with some expected wear from age and use. I do see that one of the little brass knobs to open the one door is missing. All in all, this Barrister bookcase set was well cared for ... moreover the past 90 or so years. This book case is a beautiful and unique piece. It stands 51" H x 32 1/4" W x 10 1/2 D. Another 3 inches for the bottom decorative pieces. Originally it might have sat on another piece of furniture, a desk or marble topped chest of drawers? I had it for years hanging on my wall. The decorative top is delicately spoon carved in the eastlake design. There are three shelves, two of which are adjustable. Double door glass is original with the old brass ring pulls.
