This is a beautiful mission oak hat/coat rack with plate display shelf. The 7 Hooks are Brass Cherubs This shelf was made in the early 1900s. It measures 45 1/2" long and it is 15 1/2" tall and 5 1/2" deep and has two grooves for displaying plates. It is in excellent vintage condition. It does have a small crack near the plate rack grooves on the shelf(shown in the last picture) but does not compromise any function It has metal brackets on the top of the back for hanging. Superb Cotswold School oak book trough rack arts crafts A. Peters Barnsley Heals
This is a superb Cotswold School oak and coromandel wood book trough. The quality of this piece is so easy to see. It is so lavish and over the top with exposed construction. The additional use of contrasting luxury woods is further evidence that this was a top quality piece when it was made. The through tenons and contrasting foxwedges act as a real decorative feature. As do the stylish canted edges. The quality of this piece can be further seen with the fine mitre joint in the coromandel edging. I imagine that this piece was made around 1950. It very much looks like the work produced by Alan Peters when he was working and training at the Barnsley workshop. I cannot definitely attribute it to him though. Old Arts&Crafts Mission Oak Small Bookcase, thru slab with pegs
Up for auction today is this old Arts&Crafts Mission Oak bookcase. It measures 33 1/2" in height by 27" in total width. It measures 13 1/4" at the foot by 9" at the rounded top. The shelves go through the sides and are pegged with tapered half round pegs. There are no makers marks that I have found. This has an old varnish finish but I don't know about being original. I think not.The siderails are a full 1 1/8" thick. The top shelf is 8 15/16" deep, center is 9 3/4" deep and the bottom is11 1/8" deep with a small bumper board on the back edge. There are the normal nicks and dings and scratches from use and there are 2 splintered off areas on the siderails, see picture6&9. There is also some splintering at the feet see picture 8. There is a slight darkening at the feet as you would get from ... moremopping the floor around it. The white that you see in picture 4 is from the varnish being scraped. This is a nice antique Roycroft Little Journeys bookstand from the early 1900s- Mission and Arts& Crafts period The piece is made of quarter sawn oak with original Roycroft metal tag. The stand has excellent form. Overhanging top, four keyed through tenons on the sides, and shoe feet. It is held together with the tenons and four screws that anchor the table top to the legs. Very simple design. The table was photographed with the tenons just resting in place for easy breakdown and shipping, they need to be tapped in to secure tightly. When assembled it is snug and sturdy. The color is rich with no warping of pieces. There is a possibility that it was refinished at some time due to the evenness of color but I have had the shelf myself for over 20 years and I did not do anything to it. Arts and Crafts Footed Mission Oak Book Shelf c.1900
A footed Mission Oak/Arts and Crafts Movement table/desk top book shelf. This has not been refinished. Also as a plus. There are original colorful cigar box tops in the bottom on the drawers. Original wooden knobs and feet. It stands 9 1/2" tall, 24" wide and the shelf is 7" wide. This item has scratches. Some wood loss. You will see that the letter holder on the left side is gone. It does not affect the integrity or stability of the piece and if you are or know a clever woodworker, a fairly easy fix if you feel that it needs it. Questions are always welcome.

It has 3 shelves with 3 vertical spindles on each side. It has an old refinish. Some light wear to finish on top shelf and a few nicks here and there. It measures 32" high by 19" wide by 12" deep. We would date this Cotswold School walnut bookcase to the 1940s/50s period. This is very much in the Gordon Russell manner. And is a very finely constructed piece, made entirely from solid walnut timbers. The dovetailed joints are very exquisite and this is a very satisfactory piece of small furniture in every way. This piece is in excellent original condition, and would make an outstanding addition to a collection and perhaps look quite splendid placed on a Cotswold style sideboard or table. Overall sizes, 25" long, 6.25" deep and 10" high. The internal sizes are 8" high, 5" deep and 24" long. Please note the dark streaks in the timber are natural colourations in the wood and not splits.
