And two matching floor or counter height cases which were each used as a counter in front of the wall case. Rumor has it that these were originally in the shop of a reknown female literary figure on Lexington Ave. The third counter case is slightly different than the rest of the set. Exquisite Antique Victorian Italy Putti Cherub Intricate Inlay Fruit Woods Book Shelf. The inlaid portions of the book ends are in good condition with no missing pieces visible. The shelf has splitting visible on both sides which is not unusual for its age. One of the Book Ends has bad hinge hardware which needs to be replaced.The corresponding hardware mate on the shelf is in need of replacement as well. The Pins for the hardware hinges are missing but can be replaced making functional the folding-in feature of the Book Ends. This is a hand tooled. Bench made piece of wonderful wood work with a 1/2" Bevel on the Book End edges. The new hardware will make this decorative piece a spectacular buy. This is a nice antique Roycroft Little Journeys bookstand from the early 1900s- Mission and Arts& Crafts period The piece is made of quarter sawn oak with original Roycroft metal tag. The stand has excellent form. Overhanging top, four keyed through tenons on the sides, and shoe feet. It is held together with the tenons and four screws that anchor the table top to the legs. Very simple design. The table was photographed with the tenons just resting in place for easy breakdown and shipping, they need to be tapped in to secure tightly. When assembled it is snug and sturdy. The color is rich with no warping of pieces. There is a possibility that it was refinished at some time due to the evenness of color but I have had the shelf myself for over 20 years and I did not do anything to it. ANTIQUE OAK WOOD BOOK SHELF BOOK END SECRET COMPARTMENT HOLLOW FOR REPAIRS
Up for auction is an intriguing antique find from the early 1900s: used as a book end in an early 20th century farmhouse built-in bookcase. This 10 1/2" tall red oak piece was found to be hollow, and have two compartments where at least one had a drawer at one time(see the top compartment groove in the photo) The drawer(s) are gone, but this is still a splendid way to hide things in plain sight! The top and bottom appear to have been dressed with a deep burnt gold cloth or towel-probably intended to protect the bookcase wood shelves. The panels are straight-sawn. And I believe the wood is red oak(my second guess is walnut) There are two decorative carved wood bead strips on either end, and there is an identical raised floral and leaf pattern on either side. These raised patterns are cracked with age, and there are two pieces missing ... morefrom one side pattern(see photo) Yet the elegance and warmth of this gorgeous piece are strong. Dimensions are 10.5" high. 7.5" long on the decal sides, and 4" wide from braid to braid. Because red oak is so soft and was used extensively in interior furniture making during this historical period, there are dings and grooves and chips missing. Even so, it's a beautiful piece. One of a Kind Hand Made Book/ Curios Shelf vintage charm at its best! naturally distressed has a generous amount of paint chipping. Marring, scratching etc. charm ++++! light cocoa brown paint over a creamy white paint. There is natural chipping and paint wear ~ a few minor gouges into the wood itself and paint"fading" and discoloration I have not touched the finish whatsoever other than cleaning I love the way it looks as is but you may want to sand down for an even more distressed look etc. It appears to only have those two paint colors over the bare wood It is put together with screws ~ the old"round bubble" type flat head screw(painted over) and the shelves themselves seem to be reclaimed wood(lumber scraps) from way back when ~ as each shelf is made up of 2 pieces"stapled" together with those old zig-zag ... moresawtooth type staples. They could possibly be glued also, I can't tell it is sturdy. Solid and fairly heavy ~ weighs approximately 20 pounds height to the very top of the back posts is almost 40 inches width is 19 inches depth is 11 inches fabulous and versatile! Nice old wooden six step paint ladder. Solid for age. Nice wear. Measures approx. 67 inches tall from ground straight up. 22 inches across at ground under bottom rung and 48 inches from front side to back side when wide open. Metal reinforcement original under bottom rung, also original metal wire across/under each rung. Some wear and extra old screws on paint holder shelf, but adds to charm. Metal side folding works and opens and closes as it should. Textured wood stairs, groves in wood, original. Vintage 1950s 1960s Tomado metal book shelf shelving unused 2 sets bookcase Two sets of Tomado vintage book shelves from the 1950s or 1960s. In excellent unused condition and still in their original packaging. Both the shelves and brackets are made of metal. There are also six bookends to hold the books in place. The shelves are in shades of red. Green and cream. The brackets and bookends are black. The depth of the shelves is 12 cms and the length is 48 cms(5 ins x 19 ins) The brackets are 54 cms tall(just over 21 ins) Very simple assembly. The shelves just slide into slots on the brackets. The original screws in their packets are also present to attach the shelves to the wall. The boxes show signs of age but the contents are in excellent order. Vintage Oak Extending Book Trough Shelf - Early 20th Century Book Rest
The'trough' is fully extendible and is in oak. Dated from the earl 20th century. It is in good condition and is very strong. It gets a little stiff when fully extended as its a night tight fit, it should withstand a nice stack of books. The varnish is a little flaked in places and there are minor signs of wear in the form of scuffs and light nibbles but overall it is in good condition with a rich colour. The length of the trough when closed is 31.3cm and when fully extended is 50.2cm. It has a height of 13.2cm and a width of 20.1cm. I have more rare pieces in my other item's which you will find here.
