As I believe they had a brand called Library Bureau. Its hardware& moldings look similar to some of the Globe styles. In any case. It's a nice bookcase in good shape, with very clean lines, nice golden-oak color and appears to be constructed of mainly quarter-sawn oak with little if any veneer on the main exposed parts(excepting the back of course, and possibly the bottoms inside which look like a clear maple) The finish appears intact, with its age-related character. We've given this a cleaning, you may want to go further with perhaps some steel wool, decades of office-life generally leave these old barristers with their typical use-related'Character' ... moreplease see the photos) which to my eye is all part of the antique. We used this piece for holding antiquarian natural history books and art-books. For which it works excellently. But old Barrister Bookcases are great for displaying many sorts of things, keeping them dust-free& safe. Everything seems to work properly, glass fronts all slide up& back properly, brass knobs are all there etc. This Barrister is a nice sort of mission design in its plain square lines. With slightly rounded moldings which add a touch of'friendliness' to its design. As a modular piece. It's designed to be transported, and can be set up in various heights with either one, two or three of its sections. A very useful, effective& handy Barrister Bookcase. Approximate outside dimensions overall with all sections are about 57" high. 34-1/8" wide& 13-3/4" deep Interior(usable) shelf dimensions are about 13-1/2" high. 32" wide& 12" deep. Vintage Larkin Golden Oak Bookcase
Gorgeous golden oak bookcase with two glass doors. Four adjustable shelves(fifth would be the bottom level) Great condition with original key and distinctive sliding, brass locks on top and bottom of left door. Circa 1900, I believe this was made by Larkin, NY company as a giveaway with its soap. Brass brackets(4) for one shelf are missing and one bracket on another is missing. I recently bought a number of barristers. This one is absolutely gorgeous. It is not pure quartersawn oak. But shows many quarter sawn pieces. This is a mission styled bookcase which was originally made for the government nearly 75 years ago. It shows some signs of its age. But is still a strong, beautiful, piece of furniture. The base labels are mostly missing. The base is a catalog number 3313-B-10 The finish label that is mostly gone has no usable information. But the coloring matches finish 1938 Special Treasury. The 5 bookcase sections are labelled. There is a finish label that says: FINISH NUMBER 1938 SPECIAL TREASURY There is also a style label that says: CATALOG NUMBER 3313-B. G. The top 2 section have old wavy glass in wonderful condition with no chips or cracks. The slide mechanism for the glass door on the middle section is missing, the base or bottom section is a Unique, Rare, Very desirable 4 drawer base. Its a nice clean high quality Barrister that measures 34" long, 12 1/2" wide(deep) and stands 48" tall. Early 20th century(PAT 1905-06) 3 stack Macey Quarteredsawn Golden Oak Barrister Bookcase. These famous cabinets were a British design for storing files in the dusty colonies. Today they are still around in remakes and fakes. Original cabinets such as this one are getting harder to find. But today you found one. This beautiful piece is all original as far as I can determine and in almost perfect condition(missing 4 knob pulls) This cabinet consists of five separate parts. Three bookcases. A top and a base. All parts are in perfect working condition. Even the original'Macey' label is present. Refinished and hand-rubbed for a lifetime with tung oil over 35 years ago and used daily. All sections are in great condition and the doors slide easily in and out. One section has the original Macey label on it that reads(No. 49. Finish 57. The ... morebookcase sections are even complete with"original" wavy-bubble glass imperfections that was standard for glass made in and around the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Dimensions are 51 1/4" H X 33 3/4" L X 11 1/2 W. The inside dimensions of the no. 1& 3 book sections are 32 1/2" L x 12 1/2" H x 10" D. The no. 2 book section inside dimensions are the same except the height is 9"H. This is a ca. 1900-1905 Fred Macey"D" 12" Stacking Bookcase Section. It has a golden oak finish. Measuring 11.5" Deep, 34" Wide, and 14.5" tall, 12" interior book height. The Macey stamp under the section reads"Macey Sectional Bookcase 4B" Its in overall very good condition with original finish. It has the double oxidized copper pulls. Condition: The overall original finish appears a little"dry" lost luster slightly) and has slight alligatoring. Original wavy glass and all original hardware including the back metal strap at the bottom of the back plywood that keeps it from warping over time and fits snuggly into the next bookcase section. It has the original spring loaded doors that still work. Note: there is a very small sliver/chip missing from the side of the door near the top that ... moreis barely visible from the front(see last photo. Fred Macey "D" Quartered Golden Oak Stacking Barrister Bookcase Beaded Top
This is a ca. 1900 ogee quartered oak Fred Macey"D" Stacking Bookcase Top. It has the beaded trim! These are very hard to find and made only by the Fred Macey Co. from 1900 to about 1905. It has a golden oak finish. Measuring 12" Deep, 34" Wide, and 3" tall. The Macey stamp under the section reads"Macey Sectional Bookcase 4B" Its in overall very good condition with original finish. Condition: The finish appears a little"dry" on the sides(lost it's luster) And has a couple of the usual blemishes on the top. Note: in my last photo there is a small sliver of the inside board that is chipped. Right where one of the nails that secures the band is. I have the nail further secured by a tack so it does not fall out when the top is lifted off. The band itself is still very secure and not loose, still ... moreheld on tightly by the other three nails. All the hardware is original including the metal strip on the back that keeps the back plywood from loosing and rests snuggly on the bookcase section below.
