Rare form carved quartered oak barrister bookcase with desk leaded glass-14489
This is a great carved quartered oak barrister bookcase. Sometimes called a lawyers bookcase or stacking bookcase. This outstanding stacking desk bookcase is one of the nicest we have ever seen. It has leaded glass windows in the top two sections below the molded top. The carved fall board has a key that opens or locks the desk section. Inside are two strong desk lid supports and a nice set of pigeon holes with a single pencil drawer-fitted interior. The desk section sits above two full width drawers. The top drawer is shaped to fit the curve. The second drawer is carved to accent the fall board. Both drawers have original brass handles. The lowest section is an extra tall one with a"blind" door or wood paneled door to prevent breakage from feet. The entire piece sits on a molded base section. Quartersawn oak is showcased through ... morethe entire piece which is in excellent condition. I believe this case was made by the Viking Company. Overall dimensions are 34 wide, 15 deep, and 69 high. Although we have sold hundreds of interesting barrister bookcases over the years, we have never seen this model before. Vintage Folding Bookshelf This is a vintage solid oak folding bookshelf or plant stand. Each shelf has a header with a carved or pressed design. There are braces on the side of the shelf that disconnect at a wingnut to allow the shelf to collapse and fold up. The shelf has the following measurements: Height: 54 3/4" Width: 27" including the wingnets on the sides) Depth: 10 3/8" Each Shelf: Width: 23 1/16" Depth: 8 1/4" When folded. The shelf has the following measurements: Height: 57 1/4" Width: 26 1/4" Depth: 5 7/8" This is in great condition overall with some general signs of age and use. The arm braces on the side of the shelf that lock it in place have been nicely reconstructed. They are composed of the same type of wood as the rest of the shelf. The top is what is called"spoon carved" and each side of the front has pretty fluting cut into each plank. The shelves are fixed in place and do not adjust. This would make a wonder ful over a tanle in an entry as well as in your family room or country kitchen. A very fine antique. Circa 1880's, carved plain oak Gothic style three door and three drawer bookcase. It will break down into sections for easy transport and reassembly. The original strap hinges are nockel finish brass. Retains the three door locks and escutcheons, no key. The drawers retain the original matching style pulls. The three glass panels are new replacement. The unstained interior has five solid plain oak adjustable shelves. Some minor stains to the right side interior, and right drawer bottom interior. Bookcase measures 9'9" 117" tall by 6'6" 78" wide by 2' 24" deep, the shelves 15-3/4" deep. Excellent condition: original unworn finish, a minor chip on two pillars.
