This wonderful item features all individual panes of bubble glass. Carved broken arch pediment, 4 doors on the top, 2 doors on the bottom, 5 dovetailed drawers, drop front leather top writing surface, brass hardware, beautiful wood grain, and ample shelving. Each of the drawers has a working lock and the key is included. There are 3 glass shelves on the upper center and 6 wood shelves in the upper left and right unit. Each of lower doors conceals one wood shelf. The upper unit is lighted but the current cord should be replaced. This item is in wonderful antique condition with only minor signs of age appropriate wear as pictured. The original antique bubble glass is free from breaks or damage which is very hard to come by. The backing to the upper unit looks to be lined in a off white colored wall paper and there is a red drip stain to this surface as seen in image#18 on the lower left side. Wear to the finish on one of the shelves can also be seen in image#18. Breakfront measures 92"h x 72"w x 16"d in total. The upper unit measures 56"h x 70"w x 12"d. The lower unit measures 36"h x 72"w x 12"d. I have added many pictures so you can get the best idea of its beauty and condition and supersize all pictures for some great closeup shots. The piece comes in two parts. The four door- four drawer base, and the glass fronted top. It's the perfect mix of aesthetic beauty and practical usefulness and will add a touch of style and elegance to any interiors scheme. The piece has the characteristic Sheraton style inlay to the front with the urns and garlands gracing the front of each door. There is also a thin strip bordering the doors. Drawers and glass fronted doors. If you imagine how this inlay is created you can see how much skilled craftmanship and man hours goes into the making of this fine piece of furniture. Each piece of marquetry inlay design has to be cut out of the softer fruitwood and then embedded into the harder mahogany of the main structure. There is a lot of storage space. The doors on the bottom open out to reveal the large inner space. This door is lockable and comes with a key. The drawers at the top open out cleanly. Then of course there is the fantastic glass fronted top half again with keys. When this opens out you can see the shelves are adjustable so you can store various items. It features 2 shelves and sits atop coasters so that it can be rolled about. The top shelf goes through the piece entirely while the bottom shelf is divided in 2 equal size shelfs on each side of the piece. It is in excellent condition and is quite sturdy and ready to use. It does have some light surface scratches but nothing that would not be expeceted of a vintage piece of this age. It can also be used as a table so it can serve more than one purpose. While the middle shelf measures 7 inches deep and the top shelf measures 5 inches deep. From the bottom shelf to the middle shelf there is 10 inches of clearance. Circa 1900 Mahogany Green leather inlaid steps Sturdy and strong Minor surface wear, Here is a very hard to find set of antique library steps. These steps were made in England sometime around 1900 and we have recently imported them into our Atlanta. GA antique furniture store. Library steps like this were designed to allow someone to reach the top shelves of the bookcases in their libraries. Some are simple but others like this one are more decorative and add elegance as well as utility to the room they inhabit. The wood used is solid ... moremahogany and the stairs themselves are covered in a green leather with gold tooling. A mahogany pole is central to the steps allowing one a place to use their left hand to keep balance while perusing books with the right. This pole is topped with a decorative brass cap. These antique library steps are in very good condition. The only wear is some superficial surface wear to the stairs as you can see in the photos. Structurally the steps are sound. At 180 pounds I am able to climb to the top stair and feel very stable. This is a very unusual find and would make a really interesting addition to any room with tall bookcases. These antique library steps are sturdy and beautiful. The four stairs spiral around the balance pole. Here you can see some of the minor surface wear to each step. The mahogany feet are quite sturdy. Here is a fabulous English mahogany tall bookcase with traditional broken arch pediment. Lovely glass doors with wood fretwork and step back design with it's sturdy accompanying stand or base with two drawers and a writing or work surface at 30 inches above the floor. This gorgeous early twentieth century piece stands 88 inches tall and measures 39 inches across at it's widest point and 21 inches deep, front to back. It travels in two pieces, with the top bookcase section measuring 58 inches tall by 39 inches wide and 11 inches deep. The base or stand with the two drawers is 30 inches tall by 39 inches wide and 21 inches front to back, so 9 inches protrudes forward of the bookcase when in place on top.
