Collector selling rare documented piece of early Indiana furniture. Chest of drawers signed and dated 1835. Substantial research has been done to verify the provenance that comes with this piece. The summary of that research proves without question that the piece was made by a noted cabinetmaker, who is listed in the Early Cabinetmakers of Indiana, the seminal index of Indiana furniture makers. It is exceedingly rare to document any piece of Indiana furniture to known makers, making this a highly desirable piece. Designed in a vernacular or"high country" Federal Sheraton style chest and constructed of old growth cherry. Maple wood with thick original oak secondaries. It features 3 glove drawers over 4 large and deep drawers, intricate turned and carved pilasters framing the case. On the bottom of each side of the drawers there are two curved cabinets with a shelf in each. The four cabinet curved doors are finished on the inside. All the drawers and cabinets have locks. 19th Century Chest of Drawers This is a fantastic piece of historical furniture. This is a chest of drawers or dresser from the early to mid 1800's. It appears to be constructed primarily of walnut wood. There are several distinguishing features that influence our opinion as to the date of this piece: The dresser was constructed with square-head nails. Which were used from the late 1700's to the late 1800's. It is constructed of solid-wood boards measuring up to 16" in width. Which could only have been made from very large trees long ago. The dovetails used to construct the front and back of the drawers are all hand-cut. The smallest drawer has 3 tails and 4 pins. And the larger drawers have up to 5 tails and 6 pins. The drawer bottoms are chamfered, meaning the front and side edges and the drawer bottoms are finished at ... morea slop. While the inside top of the drawer is flat. This was cut and finished by hand-held tools, which is an indication that it is pre-1840. All of the saw cuts in the wood appear to be parallel rather than circular. This indicates the use of mill saws during construction. The wood also appears to be hand-planed. The dresser features turned-wood pulls. Which we believe to be original. It also has paneled sides, which was a feature in many early Philidelphia chests of drawers. This piece is in good. Antique condition overall with some general signs of age and use. There is a significant crack in the drawer second from the top. It is still structurally sound. All of the drawers have locks, but we do not have the matching key. This piece has cracks, wear, chips, discoloration and repairs that are consistant with a piece of this age. The"flaws" only contribute to the primateive nature of this chest of drawers. They quietly tell the stories of its life. The dresser measures 45 7/8" tall by 42 5/8" wide by 20" deep. The drawer faces are all 36" wide. Antiques An amazing example of fine mid Victorian American craftsmanship- a small. Correct to scale model of a chest of drawers in wonderful Birdseye maple veneer. Everything is to scale down to the hand turned pulls, drawer locks, bun feet, etc. The secondary wood inside the drawers is mahogany. Note that the chest is stepped- 2 drawers up and down. The two sections are held together with screws. And the back of the chest is covered with a beveled walnut panel. Note the finger jointing on the drawers. The top, middle and base edges are beautifully molded and finished, including the rounded corners. Nice mellow age patina. The back panel and the two halves of the chest can be removed with 8 screws. This exceptional piece was likely a salesman sample or an apprentice piece. But could have been made for a child. It also would serve well as ... morea jewelery chest. We believe it to be oak, but it's clearly the same wood throughout, marked with a capital FP(Frederick Pierce) on the reverse. It has all original handles and a simple carved topstop at the rear. Here is a really nice early 19th century chest of drawers. This item is overall in good shape and I'm not sure but looks like original finish. Missing one of the drawer pulls and top of dresser has a split between the seam of wood. Right side of dresser has same type of split between two boards. Dresser exhibits old scratches and mars associated with antique furniture. Finish on the dressers top also has some issues with staining. Wear and discoloration. Circa 1870 Mahogany Bow front Sturdy See description for full condition report, This stunning handcrafted piece was made in England in 1870. The warm patina of the mahogany has a satin luster that would mesh well with most decorating styles. The outward bow of the facade brings an element of brightening elegance to any setting. The two-on-three style drawers provide a great deal of storage. All of the drawers come equipped with all-brass hardware and lock escutcheons. However there is no key. The edges of the drawers are ... moredecorated with a fine bead molding. Just under the top molding is a handsomely inlaid double end spear design done from satinwood string inlay. The piece sits on a pair of very sturdy shaped bracket feet. The dresser is around 145 years old and in good condition overall. The drawers open easily and shut tight. The brass pulls are fastened securely to the drawers although they are not original to this antique dresser. There is a small chip in one as pictured. The mold around the top has been repaired on all sides. There is also a strong repair on the front right foot. You will find some separation marks in the darker spots on both sides and along the front moulding. There are signs of character building wear on the entire piece and the top has a number of light marks and stains. The pictures are a great representation of the condition. None of these items listed above have any sort of effect on the structural integrity of the piece as it is very sturdy. Wonderful antique dressers like this are hard to find.
