In the summer it could be removed so the occupants could get a little breeze, if there was any. In the winter it would be put back on to stop the drafts. This bed has a shaped crest rail of gorgeous crotch mahogany, underneath the crest are three inset panels topped with Gothic style arches and half drop finials. Their are a couple of chips of missing mahogany on the headboard~see picture.The bed which was originally roped and still has the knobs. The solid cherry post are topped with flame finials. The measurements are 83 inches tall at post, 71 inches tall at headboard, 58 inches wide and 79 inches long. The mattress area is 72 inches long, and 51 inches wide. The weight is approximately 100 lbs. This is a great bed the crotch mahogany is just outstanding. This bed would add WOW factor to any bedroom. It is sturdy and ready to take its place in your home. What a sweet chest of drawers. Salesman sample from circa 1850. Made of Walnut It measures 9 inches tall 9 1/2 inches wide 5 3/4 deep The chest has a water stain on the top. I have never tried to bleach it out. It looks to have been finished in the past. The rear of one of the drawers looks like it had been nibbled on in it's past. See photo. I have owned it for 25 years purchased it from an estate in Maine. You can see in the photo that they did a repair to the top left corner of the top drawer Patched with care. The sample shows very well and the Walnut has depth in the grains. So nice to look at. we have for sale two pieces of empire furniture for restoration or painting to make them shabby chic style.they are in a bad state.but still very sturdy.they have been in a basement for a long time.but maybe some one can restore these.i will explain what is going on with each one.the first one is missing the mirror part of the furniture.the veeneer is peeling here and there.the doors are off of it and one is split in two.the drawyers are all there and work good.the back is warped.but the furniture is very strong and sturdy.you can stand on top of it and it would be fine.see all pics.the second one.the veneer on the top is bubbled.we think this one did never have a mirror because it has a decorative piece on the top toward the back.the door are there and the right drawyer on top fell apart but we have all the pieces to the drawyer.the veener ... moreis peeling here and there.see pics.this one is on casters but the casters are a little messed up.they were wooden casters.that one has a label on it that looks like it was made by millers furniture in the rockaways ny. its a shame that these were stored in a basement for a long time so maybe that why they are like this.maybe someone can restore them.we are offering local pick up only.but if the buyer is willing to arrange to have them picked up by a frieght company that would be fine.we can help.and would be here to meet the frieght company.although that may be expensive.i dont know too much about that.but maybe the buyer who wants thes know.
