Middle Atlantic States, circa 1790-1810. Crafted of solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, the golden grain flow is magnificent and unbroken. The top has an inlaid rim with stringer inlay outlines, rectangular in shape while gently bowing across the front to conform with the case. The drawers are also bowed, each with fully original oval brasses flanking original keyholes over what we believe to be original locks with ovular stringer inlay outlining each of the graduated four drawers. They are hand dovetailed back and front, with yellow pine secondaries, the bottom board chamfered to rabbet into the drawer frame and secured with glued blocking at regular intervals along the frame. Each drawer is divided by a solid mahogany bar, backed by pine secondaries that go almost the entire way through the case to form most of a dust board between the drawers. The drawer blades are hidden behind a thin piece of mahogany. Presumably covering the dovetail slot joinery. The back of the case features all original boards, many with original iron rose head nails, but re-secured with nails and screws throughout. An original yellowed hand written label is illegible, but still present on the back of the case. The chest rests over four French feet, each with just slight outward splay and entirely original blocking along the bottom. The feet are cracked along the grain, natural as the grains run perpendicular to the pine blocking, but do not in any way compromise the feet. A fine band of yellow inlay framed by dark stringer inlay runs along the bottom of the case to complete the chest. Original in almost every single aspect of the chest. This work of art is remarkably well preserved. As an investment grade antique in every aspect, this is a very fine acquisition for any serious collector of American Federal furniture. It will certainly be treasured

Up for auction is a RARE ANTIQUE OAK SALESMAN'S SAMPLE Miniature EASTLAKE MIRRORED BUREAU/ DRESSER Circa 1870-1885. Includes antique oak ornate Eastlake style mirrored dresser with candle holders and lift up compartment on bureau. Ornate applied molding at top of fancy scrolled mirror frame. Mirror can tilt. Grid lines on drawer fronts are typical of Eastlake style of the late 19th century. Regarding wood color, it is a medium oak color(looks a bit more red/orange in the photos) Any dark areas are shadows and white areas are reflections. As you can see this is a wonderful piece and could be used in many places in a home, whether as a miniature Salesman's Sample or a doll bureau for dolls. As with most antiques, it has it's minor flaws, nothing to totally distract from it's beauty, or usability, aged wood has such character. It does have some chips, dings, and marks, and one missing drawer pull. Seems to be original finish but I am not sure. Could be improved with restoration but again that is your choice. Drawers work fair, no sticking. Mirror is in very good condition and has wide bevel, might be new, and is missing the wooden backing. One peg missing underneath mirror outer frame but other three hold it in place fine. Mirror frame is attached to bureau with pegs that just slip into holes in the bureau ledge, and more brackets in back. All in all a fabulous miniature! Hard to find miniature Eastlake style. ca. 1850 ANTIQUE BUREAU DRESSER CHEST
For your consideration we have a ca. 1850 American bureau. I purchased this about 12 years ago from an antique dealer who bought it from an elderly descendant of the original builder. May be made of chestnut. But I am not certain of this. Good condition overall, shows honest wear and patina, I believe the finish is original and untouched. Several scuffs and other marks, please refer to the images. Handles are original, small wheels were added to the bottom and are not original. All drawers open smoothly but one needs a little lift to close, I've chosen not to correct this to maintain its original charm. Includes a message, written in pencil, inside the top left drawer which reads"This bureau was made by Mary McClure Stafford's father a cabinet maker + he died when she was about 8 years old(about 1852) on the Mary Campbell farm ... moresouth of the river bridge" Measures 49"h x 22"d x 47"w. Antique burled walnut dresser/sideboard/credenza/bureau. It has a white demilune beveled marble top and large center mirror. On either side of the mirror there are two curved cabinets with a shelf in each. Picture 10 shows a small piece of veneer at the top left that has come unglued and a couple of marks. There are three large graduated drawers. On the bottom of each side of the drawers there are two curved cabinets with a shelf in each. The four cabinet curved doors are finished on the inside. All the drawers and cabinets have locks. I have the key for the top left cabinet. The drawers have the original carved wood pulls. It stands 79" high. 48" wide, and 25" deep. The marble has no cracks. The piece is in fine condition.
