Description: This listing is for a ... more19th Century French Empire Period Mahogany Marble Top Ormolu Mounted Commode. Circa 1805. It is a fascinating work of art, constructed in three parts- first the marble, which is extremely heavy at just over an inch thick(1 1/16" thick) the top of the chest with the top drawer, and the bottom of the chest with the lower three drawers. Lifting the marble reveals the construction of the topmost portion. Each of the front corners with a full gallery of hand cut dovetails that lock the top into the thick corners. All of the secondaries are solid oak, joined with large pegged tenons along the frame, this large thick top joining the lower case with thick through-tenon wedged mortise joints- by pulling out the wedge, the tenon drops out of the top portion, freeing it from the lower case. This lifts away from the case as long as the columns are not nailed at the top. The top drawer features the most incredible gilt ormolu mounts. Cast with stunning attention to even the smallest detail. Horizontal curled anthemions flank a seated angel, inscribing in a blank scroll. With wings furled behind, detailed even down to the tiniest feather, the angel rests with legs slightly bent as the robe flows from his legs, a trumpet peering out from behind him. Over either columnar support, gilt ormolu mounts of angels flank the top drawer, the figure on the right peering towards the sky with a globe behind him, the angel on the left sitting on a carefully crafted French Empire chair reading a scroll. The turned columns on either side rest on square plinths. Capped at the top and bottom with gold gilt flamed mounts, finely detailed throughout. Three drawers slide in and out of the case, each hand dovetailed front and back with solid oak secondary woods making up the frame and bottoms. The backsplash is 12 inches tall, and the white and gray grain marble top has an ogee bevel edge and round corners. We love the candle shelves where an oil lamp used to sit. Description Most elegant French walnut marble top commode Circa 1920s' featuring a green touch color and a light brown on light pink shaped marble with an outset front corner. Above three deep drawers veneered with Burr walnut. The sides and front are decorated with inlay, supported on two cabriole legs mounted with bronze sabot at the front and bracket feet at the back. Rare French Marble Top & Walnut Commode W Tilting Porcelain Sink
Very rare 19th century French commode with tilting sink. This commode is made of walnut and has a beautiful marble top. The sink tilts to empty and there is a drain under the bowl. The tilting sink is marked"Establissements Porcher Porcelain Anglaise. Paris-Revin" The brass on/off handles are marked hot and cold in French. The marble top has a crack in the front which has been glued and a piece on the front left corner which has been professionally restored. There is a small piece of molding missing on the right side of the case. The inside of the piece has cut outs for where the plumbing went through. The commode measures 39.5" wide x 27.75" deep and 43.25" tall at its widest points. It has 2 small drawers as well as a false drawer in the center.

French Louis XVI Style Marquetry Inlaid Demilune Marble Topped Commode Early 20th Century Item# 130008LWP26 Simply gorgeous and perfectly preserved in every way. This fine French Louis XVI Style Commode is simply above reproach. At least a century after being crafted entirely by hand, the commode remains in nearly identical condition to when it left the shop. Clearly maintained in a home that cared for it and kept humidity at a stable level throughout it's life, the piece does not display the typical issues commonly associated with these heavily inlaid works of art. The mixed stone brèche d'Alep top is a wonderful variated surface. Full of color and activity, completed with a thin molded channel around the edge of the demilune form. The facade is a mix of five drawers and two cabinet doors; the top drawer is broad with crossbanded ... moreveneers framed in olivewood stringer inlay. It rests over a pair of drawers with a continuous inlaid image of a vase overflowing with flowers and foliage, hanging from a bow-tied ribbon draped on the keyhole escutcheon over a cross banded ground and framed in the same stepped rectangular olivewood stringer inlay that completes each drawer and door. The inlay is incredible intricate. And remarkably there is no peeling or lifting along the edges of this veneer, as typically happens when the piece is stored in an environment with poorly controlled temperature and humidity. On either side of the cabinet, small drawers swing outwards over the cabinet doors, these hand dovetailed at the back of each. The cabinet space is divided with a single shelf. The entire commode rests over turned and tapered legs that are topped and terminated in brass mounts. This is an outstanding find for any collector of French Louis XV and XVI antique furniture. Specifically if you seek out utmost quality in your furnishings. This state of preservation is difficult to find and is highly desirable by collectors and decorators alike. Be sure to add me to your! This late 1800's SOLID WALNUT AND MARBLE TOP COMMODE has WALNUT BURL TRIM and ORIGINAL BRASS HARDWARE. It has one long drawer and two small ones. Beautiful walnut veneer adorns the middle of the door and three drawers. All drawers have deep dovetailing. In the late 1800's the commode provided the wash-up and refresh area. Behind the door area is room for the water pitcher. The matching basin or bowl. Soap dish, vase and other items were displayed on the marble top. The distinctive brass hardware is original. The heavy marble top lifts off and could be centered better than it is in this picture. The marble has several small filled holes near the back, where a splash-back piece would have been attached to the top. This commode is small and compact and provides good storage. Fresh from local Estate. We have a pleasure to offer you this gorgeous turn of the 19th to 20th century French Provincial Marble Top Commode/ Dresser/ Chest. Hand painted at the later date in white and gold. Job done truly spectacular. Original and good quality bronze handles, locks and escutcheons. The marble is beautiful antique red specimen example, it meshes great with the paint colors, leaves all of the attention on the commode. Great quality of the secondary wood, reverse dovetailing on drawers, they slide in and out like skates, no warping or any such issues. Interior of the drawers was also painted(dark red) Heavy wood, intricate carvings, nicely brought to the forefront with painted colors, which are rich and vivid.
