Scottish chest, Circa 1890, Flame mahogany, Barley twist columns, Large drawers, Turned wooden knobs, Mother of pearl inlay, Age splits to top, Consistent wear throughout, One knob broken, Overall very sturdy, This flame mahogany Scottish chest of drawers was made around 1890. We purchased it in England and imported it to our antique furniture store in Atlanta. GA. This hand made chest displays all of the wonderful characteristics that make Scottish chests so popular and useful. There is a"not so obvious" drawer at the very top over three deep, serpentine front drawers over three long drawers providing a huge amount of storage. The barley twist columns on either side give some elegance to the simple lines of this chest. The drawer pulls are a turned wooden knob with a mother of pearl inlay in the center. One of the knobs is missing about a quarter of the knob, but the mother of pearl inlay in the center is intact. All drawers are joined with hand cut dovetailed joints. All of the drawers also have locks but there is no key for this chest. The top of the chest has a few cosmetic age splits and there is consistent wear throughout the chest. This wear is mainly superficial surface dings etc. Overall the chest is quite sturdy and in good condition for its age. It would make a warm addition to any home or office. The seven drawers provide a huge amount of storage space. The barley twist columns are a wonderful addition to this elegant look. The turned knobs have a mother of pearl inlay. The drawers feature hand cut dovetails. You can see an example of some of the wear around the bun feet. The top of the chest has some minor age separations. This close up better shows the minor age separations in this part of the top.

Fantastic antique New Hampshire Chippendale chest of drawers. Constructed from pine. This piece has been stained a beautiful deep reddish brown tone. The chest has five graduated doors, each with sturdy dovetail construction and brass willow mount pulls and escutcheons. The chest has a classic overhanging molded top, which is balance my simple bracketed feet at the piece's base. This chest probably dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. Overall. The chest is in fair to good antique condition, but does have some wear and dings commensurate with age and use. One of the escutcheons also has a break near the top, as you can see from the pictures below. Otherwise no significant damage or visible repairs. This chest stands 41" tall and measures 38 3/4" wide and 19 1/2" deep.
