Featuring original Queen Anne period brass hardware and ... moreall original locks, circa 1740-50. It is a beautiful piece with a simple form so successful commercially that it was copied in bedroom furniture for nearly 300 years, the same form being used in case pieces today. It is of outstanding craftsmanship being formed almost entirely of solid Cuban Mahogany, today a rare and restricted wood of incredible cost, known for it's dark and dense grain formations. A carved crown molding wraps around the front and sides. Repaired in numerous areas along, completing the smooth finished top of the case. The sides of the case are two boards that blind-dovetail at the top and through-dovetail at the bottom. The face of the case features two smaller drawers over four graduated larger drawers, each with full molded lips of the solid and fully original brass Queen Anne brass hardware, an original lock on every drawer(except the bottom) with many secured with original hand forged rose head nails and a few screws. Each drawer is hand dovetailed. Uniquely with graduating dovetails- the top two drawers have two dovetails, the next drawer down has three dovetails, the third down four dovetails, fourth with five dovetails and the bottom drawer with six. The top two drawers are divided by an upright bar with a half-dovetail joint penetrating the crossbar. Each drawer is divided with full dust board divisions, mahogany along the face, pine secondary woods making up the rest of the dust board. The dust board is primarily an English invention, found only infrequently on American case pieces, and conveniently protects clothing and items in drawers below from being dirtied by the drawer action. The back of the case is made up of one original board and the rest replaced. All re-secured with newer nails- a label inside on one of the replaced boards refers to a furniture depository in England. This is an exceptional antique period American Tiger Maple Chest of Drawers in a Queen Anne form. It measures 72.5 inches in height. The top measures 39x18 inches. The top and base appear to be a marriage with the top being older then the base. The drawer fronts have a pronounced Tiger Maple and the color of the chest is that honey golden brown that is most sought after. The top appears to be a period piece from the early 1800s. The base appears to be more custom made which might be made 50 years ago, it is hard to tell. From looking at the front and sides you would never tell it was a marriage but when you open up the drawers on the base you can tell they dont have the same age as the top. Due to the size of this piece it either needs to be picked up here on Cape Cod or it must be shipped freight at the cost of the purchaser. We can recommend a couple of freight shippers on the east coast who do a very nice job for a reasonable price. However shipping west of the Mississippi can cause a jump in the freight price so please keep that in mind when bidding. Description This chest sold a month ago to a bidder that lives in Australia. I could not ship him the chest there because of shipping restrictions please see note below. My fault. I did not realize the size box that would be necessary to ship this chest safely. So my appologies. Here we go again. This listing is for a really quite spectacular circa 1850 very elaborate apprentice cabinet circa 1850 or so. The cabinet measures 19 inches high by 16 inches across and 8 inches deep. 48 by 40 by 20 cm) The cabinet has 4 wallpaper lined drawers. Each drawer has a brass escutcheon and two round wood pulls each with a brass star. The cabinet is mahogany with the top. Front and both sides covered in marquetry work. The marquetry work is at least 6 different woods including olive and fruit woods. The drawers are flanked by columns with fancy capitals ... moreand bases. The whole sits on 4 bun feet. As you can see by the photographs the cabinet is a really beautiful example of"proof" that an apprentice had achieved mastery of his cabinet making skills. The condition is also exceptional for it's age and virtually untouched as far as restorations or repairs. The drawers maintain their original wall paper interiors. The table top has mother of pearl inlays and it is decorated with hand painted gold trim and a flower pattern. The same gold trim and flower pattern is continued on the base and the column. A pedestal base is rising from a stepped circular foundation on three feet. Condition: The table is in its original condition with beautiful patina. Description: This listing is for a Fine English Chippendale Two over Three Drawer Bachelors Chest. C. 1760-80. It is crafted of solid mahogany, using broad boards to construct the top and sides, each two board construction. An applied molded carved rim wraps around the perimeter of the top. Two smaller drawers rest over three wide graduated drawers, each with entirely original brasses and very early(possibly original) locks, being constructed of oak secondary woods hand dovetailed with a flat bottom beneath applied runners and nailed at the back with original rosehead nails. Each drawer features full length dustboards between each drawer to protect the contents of each drawer from dust and dirt as the drawer moves in and out ... moreof the case- it also supports each drawer, allowing for a smooth flowing motion in the case. The chest rests over four large bracket feet, each fully original with original blocking on all but one of the feet. The back is original as well, constructed of four pine boards lined with original hand forged rosehead nails. The secondary pine triangle supporting the back feet dovetails into the feet, making them permanent and also a rather unique detail of design. This is a remarkably well preserved chest. With originality in almost every facet of the case. It is incredibly dense and heavy, built to last the test of time- attention was shown in every detail of the construction, allowing this chest to survive and thrive two hundred and fifty years later. The original drawer locks are all in place and in excellent working order using the beautiful key I had made.The top of the dresser has incredible patina and some of the finest grain figuring you will see.The top is first class all the way. All of the drawers were totally rebuilt and slide like silk. The drawers feature the sought after dovetail joinery. I restored the finish all by hand using a custom rich stain to achieve the highlighted rich burgundy followed by many. This is a"bonnet top" dresser meaning the top two drawers protrude and overhand the lower level drawers. The sides have great architectural design with the paneled construction.Like any fine antique. This piece has minor imperfections and character marks in the wood. The posts which hold the drawer handle in place are brass plated steel, some of the plating has worn off after 135 plus years.The photos show casters in the legs, they will not be included.I find they tend to split the legs.There is a knot depression on the upper left side(see photo) I think it adds character and figuring just like the top of the dresser. Purchased this item at an estate sale so I don't know the origin of this piece. Measures 32" W x 19" D x 44 1/2" H(49" in back) I do know that the craftsmanship is phenomenal and the fit and finish is beautiful. The piece is in average condition with some scratches and wood chipped off in places. I'm guessing the extra compartment on top was a jewelry box. The wheels are made of wood suggesting it is very old indeed. The handcarved overlays are awesome. Two drawer handles are missing. The handles are carved with unique decoration.not the typical fruit and leaf handle on this style of dresser.and there is the beautifully hand carved acanthus leaves at top and around sides of mirrors. In addition, the two small candleholders are present and in excellent condition. Eastlake 1875 Antique Tall Chest with Mirror. Jewelry Drawers. An exceptionally well crafted late Victorian or Eastlake period tall chest of drawers with a swivel mirror dates from about 1875. Solid walnut with burl panels. The satiny finish is in excellent condition with warm patina. The mirror has just enough"smoke" to show its age, it is mounted above two small jewelry drawers. All drawers have round or"pin and cove" dovetail joints, characteristic of the age. Engraved brass hardware is of the period. But not original to the piece, for unknown reasons. Five lower drawers were latched with a"sidelock" mechanism- at the right side is a hinged column secured the drawers, but the lock is missing. This is another item I am listing for a neighbor/friend. His parents purchased this at an auction about 40 yrs ago and at that time it was said to be about 100 yrs old. He does not have any documentation to prove this although. He moved into a place a few yrs ago that had a leak in the roof which did some damage he did however totally restore it and resealed it. Antique Pine Chest of Drawers. French Swedish Rustic Country Style Dresser.
I have for sale an antique chest of drawers/ dresser. Made of pine. It is built in the French provincial/ Swedish country style. It has five drawers. It is missing one knob. The knobs are not original. They were purchased at Anthropologie store. The chest is 50" tall. 34" wide, and 18" deep. Each drawer has inner dimension of: 27" wide. 14" deep and 7" tall. Bachelor's Highboy Chest....antique dresser chest of drawers...Circa 1890
It was love at first sight when I met this Bureau/ Chest of Drawers. Circa 1890.needing to be loving restored to a majestic chest once again. I lovingly and meticulously restored this chest from top to bottom. Respecting it as the wonderful antique treasure it is.You can easily see it is a"chest on chest" style. It features beautiful walnut veneers and solid walnut woods. The solid brass hardware is all original and very intricate. Stunning really. I buffed it back to full glory. The lower drawers have a carving which outlines all the lower drawers together(see photo)There is a very small squiggle in the carving(close up photo) which was done by the maker on the lower drawer, it adds great character. No one has ever noticed it until I pointed it out to them. All of the drawers have been fully restored and slide excellent. The Sheraton ... morestyle legs with fluted corner posts enhance the lines of this chest.I restored the finish using many, many coats of hand rubbed satin varnish which bringing out the gorgeous walnut grains. Built like a tank from all hardwood construction. I custom made the small piece of walnut trim in front of the backsplash.The two small doors are a very unique feature. I installed new magnetic catches for the doors. All of the drawers feature lock and keyed dovetail joinery. Strong, solid and secure displaying the finest craftsmanship by the maker. I restored the inside of all the drawers with the same hand rubbed satin finish as the exterior of the chest.The drawer bottoms are rich& beautiful grained mahogany. Like any fine antique.You will find character marks and minor imperfections in the this piece, such as nick, dings, filled holes, they add character and patina to this wonderful chest. The chest is rock solid, stable and ready to"set it and forget it" there are no issues needing attention, just use it and enjoy it for years to come.This chest has been restored with the highest level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Antique Georgian Figured Walnut Chest of Drawers(Click to Enlarge) This antique chest of drawers featured a lovely figured veneer believed to be walnut. Measures 44" high by 44.5" wide by 20.5" deep. Round figured knobs appear to be original. Drawers have hand-cut lap dovetails and cockbeading of the type brought into use starting in the 1770s. Overall condition is excellent. There is a chip approximately 1" long from the veneer along the front right edge. Which no doubt can be easily repaired by a professional. Overall condition of the veneer is excellent, but there is some buckling on the left side of the piece, consistent with its age. Bottom features bracketed feet and an elegant shaped skirt on front and sides.
