Cast bronze mounts, and Breche maroon marble top. It was made in Paris by the noted bronzier and cabinet maker, E. Kahn. It measures 44.5" wide, 33.75" tall and 22.25" deep, and has two drawers. A paper label on the top of the frame reads"Envoi de E Kahn& Cie 84 Avenue Ledru-Rollin, Paris" Overall condition is excellent. Antique Inlaid Bombe Commode
We just purchased the contents of a Long Island. NY estate with many outstanding pieces. This one is an antique inlaid Bombe commode ca. 1840-1869 that is probably either Italian or German/Austrian. There is beautiful marquetry throughout. Framing the outer edges of the two drawers is the Greek key design. In the center overlapping both drawers is a circular floral motif. Beneath the bottom drawer is a long ribbon extending the entire length of the piece. The legs are not the usual curved legs but rather they are squared off at the base and have a spiral motif on them. On either side of the commode, there is an oval medallion centered with an urn and framed with the Greek key. The beautiful marble top is Breccia Pernicia. The large bronze handles are beautifully chased. The overall condition of the piece is excellent. There is a tiny chip ... morein the veneer where the two drawers meet and some of the finish feels a little sandy. A light French polishing would make this piece absolutely magnificent. Cast bronze mounts, and Breche maroon marble top. It was made in Paris by the noted bronzier and cabinet maker, E. Kahn, in the late 19th century. It measures 44.5" wide, 33.75" tall and 22.25" deep, and has two drawers. A paper label on the top of the frame reads"Envoi de E Kahn& Cie 84 Avenue Ledru-Rollin, Paris" Kahn was a business associate of Francois Linke, and his finest designs regularly appear at major auction. Exquisite antique Louis XV marble top commode. The sides and front have been inlaid with beautiful geometric parquetry that sets off the beautiful curved shape of the commode. The corners and feet are accented with ornate metal decorations that match the dramatic drawer pulls and key surrounds. The drawers are have been constructed with sturdy dovetail joints and the piece also has a paneled back. This timeless piece most likely dates from the 19th or early 20th century. Overall the commode is in good antique condition. With some minor wear. There is damage to the veneers along the back legs, but it is difficult to see and one of the front legs looks like it may have been repaired near the bottom. See pictures. Beautiful Bombe Commode Chest with Green Italian Marble Top Louis XV French Antique Bombe Style Chest This was abosolutely the most beautful piece of furniture I have ever had. My husband inherited it from a client approximately 20 years ago. He has since past and I do not know the complete history. It was in exellent condition when I met him and remained that was until we moved to a new home about six years ago. It was sitting over an A/C vent I do not know for sure but I believe that may have dried it out and caused the veneer to start chipping. If the right person knew how to fix or restore the veneer it would be perfect piece. The Green Italian Marble top is in pristiene condition. as are the drawers, legs and ornate brass fixtures. I hope this chest finds the right home it is beautiful in any room. Height 36" Width 52" Depth ... more21" I am not sure about the weight- it i very heavy with the Top.
