The attention to detail given to the design of this Chest is splendid! The fancy and very ornate removable top gallery is graced with scalloped moulding. Large globe finials, carved rosette roundels and additional incised carvings. The corners of the gallery are adorned with turned finials. The chest has six drawers. The side lock enables the user to lock the five bottom drawers with a key which I have. Two of the pulls have been replaced on the drawer that contains the butlers desk. They blend well with the other pulls. The top contains two doors over a mirror. It has a gallery shelf on both sides of the doors. Underneath the shelves. The back walnut boards have a beaded board design. The sides of the chest also have a beaded board design. The top is removable for easier transport. The raised design on the drawer fronts are burl walnut veneer. The chest is in very good estate condition. It appears to have been refinished many years ago. The ... morebeaded board's finish on the very top right side has run. This can be seen in the pictures. A wooden pull in the butlers desk is missing. There has been a repair above the top drawer. This is a rather uncommon piece of late Victorian furniture. A carved Walnut lock side lingerie chest. Locksides(sometimes called Sidelocks) were. Although uncommon by themselves, were generally executed as larger chests of drawers, more typically a dresser or chest. This piece is a lingerie chest with a beveled mirror(excellent condition) top with heavily carved crest and framework with pierced carved supports. Rather an overall organic motif with an Eastlake influence. Base has 4 deep drawers with a hinged locking panel(no key) along the right side. Very nice. Unusual Victorian burl walnut lockside dresser with butlers desk. I haven't seen one with a desk in it like this one before. If there was an insert to the desk, it is long gone. It appears to have had some type of galley rail on it at one time. It has a small stain on the top and the key is missing(shouldn't be too hard to find one that fits it) Absolutely gorgeous.
