This highly attractive reproduction American Chippendale Highboy emulates closely after the Philadelphia work centers. Probably crafted during the last years of the 19th century, the entire case is crafted by hand with thick solid walnut planks for primary surfaces. All secondary woods are heavy solid planks of oak, poplar and chestnut. The drawers are hand dovetailed front and back, the bottoms chamfered along the edges and set in grooves in the drawer frame. The brilliant brass batwing hardware is original to the case. The broken-arch pediment boasts robust carved rosettes set beneath a deep molding flanked by flame carved finials. Of the eleven drawers lining the facade, two are embellished with recessed shell carvings, the knees and apron likewise showcasing detailed shell forms. The entire case rests over cabriole legs terminating in trifid feet. This is an absolutely gorgeous reproduction for anyone passionate about the American Chippendale form. Remaining in an exceptional state of preservation. This is a piece that was built to last many lifetimes. Measurements: 82 1/2" total height(top is 51 1/2" high. Base is 32 1/2" high) x 41 5/8" wide x 23 1/2" deep Condition Report: Minor dings and abrasions. Surface wear, etc. Refinished at some point in the 20th Century. Middle Atlantic States, circa 1790-1810. Crafted of solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, the golden grain flow is magnificent and unbroken. The top has an inlaid rim with stringer inlay outlines, rectangular in shape while gently bowing across the front to conform with the case. The drawers are also bowed, each with fully original oval brasses flanking original keyholes over what we believe to be original locks with ovular stringer inlay outlining each of the graduated four drawers. They are hand dovetailed back and front, with yellow pine secondaries, the bottom board chamfered to rabbet into the drawer frame and secured with glued blocking at regular intervals along the frame. Each drawer is divided by a solid mahogany bar, backed by pine secondaries that go almost the entire way through the case to form most of a dust board between the drawers. The drawer blades are hidden behind a thin piece of mahogany. Presumably covering the dovetail slot joinery. The back of the case features all original boards, many with original iron rose head nails, but re-secured with nails and screws throughout. An original yellowed hand written label is illegible, but still present on the back of the case. The chest rests over four French feet, each with just slight outward splay and entirely original blocking along the bottom. The feet are cracked along the grain, natural as the grains run perpendicular to the pine blocking, but do not in any way compromise the feet. A fine band of yellow inlay framed by dark stringer inlay runs along the bottom of the case to complete the chest. Original in almost every single aspect of the chest. This work of art is remarkably well preserved. As an investment grade antique in every aspect, this is a very fine acquisition for any serious collector of American Federal furniture. It will certainly be treasured

Fantastic antique New Hampshire Chippendale chest of drawers. Constructed from pine. This piece has been stained a beautiful deep reddish brown tone. The chest has five graduated doors, each with sturdy dovetail construction and brass willow mount pulls and escutcheons. The chest has a classic overhanging molded top, which is balance my simple bracketed feet at the piece's base. This chest probably dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century. Overall. The chest is in fair to good antique condition, but does have some wear and dings commensurate with age and use. One of the escutcheons also has a break near the top, as you can see from the pictures below. Otherwise no significant damage or visible repairs. This chest stands 41" tall and measures 38 3/4" wide and 19 1/2" deep.
