It is a beautiful piece with a simple form so successful commercially that it was copied in bedroom furniture for nearly 300 years, the same form being used in case pieces today. It is of outstanding craftsmanship being formed almost entirely of solid Cuban Mahogany, today a rare and restricted wood of incredible cost, known for it's dark and dense grain formations. A carved crown molding wraps around the front and sides. Repaired in numerous areas along, completing the smooth finished top of the case. The sides of the case are two boards that blind-dovetail at the top and through-dovetail at the bottom. The face of the case features two smaller drawers over four graduated larger drawers, each with full molded lips of the solid and fully original brass Queen Anne brass hardware, an original lock on every drawer(except the bottom) with many secured with original hand forged rose head nails and a few screws. Each drawer is hand dovetailed. Uniquely with graduating dovetails- the top two drawers have two dovetails, the next drawer down has three dovetails, the third down four dovetails, fourth with five dovetails and the bottom drawer with six. The top two drawers are divided by an upright bar with a half-dovetail joint penetrating the crossbar. Each drawer is divided with full dust board divisions, mahogany along the face, pine secondary woods making up the rest of the dust board. The dust board is primarily an English invention, found only infrequently on American case pieces, and conveniently protects clothing and items in drawers below from being dirtied by the drawer action. The back of the case is made up of one original board and the rest replaced. All re-secured with newer nails- a label inside on one of the replaced boards refers to a furniture depository in England. Pennsylvania Probably crafted during the mid-to-late 19th Century Item# 130102YTP18 This is a simply gorgeous American Pennsylvania Chippendale(Style) Lowboy Antique Chest of Drawers crafted in solid walnut. While every detail is careful executed in the manner of the original works. We believe this piece was actually crafted nearly one-hundred years after the period during the mid-to-late 19th Century. It features a fine two board top, the majority being a single solid plank with only the last few inches at the back being crafted of a second joined board, the grain selected carefully and quite fine. The edge has a carved quarter-round molding of the solid, scalloping at each front corner, projecting generously ... moreover the chest. Three small drawers rest above the deeply serpentine apron, each joined front and back with fine scored dovetails, the bottom deeply chamfered and rabbeting into the sides, period Queen Anne hardware on each drawer face. The apron around the entire table is noteworthy: bold. Flowing, inspiring, the overall flow of the skirt gives incredible lift to the table. It gives robustness to the form, the lines active and dancing, the table looking poised for action. The three-scrolled form of the apron matches the trifid form of the foot, almost matching it's proportional flow. The legs are carved of a single solid piece of walnut from the table top to the foot, the sides of the table tenoned into the top of the leg and pegged symmetrically before curving in bold knees over fine cabriole form. C. 1800-15 Item# 130101PHP13 While the Hepplewhite form employing splayed french feet in case pieces is well developed. Even common, this chest exudes a certain strength that is uncommon in Federal period works of the Hepplewhite style. The solid walnut and solid poplar construction gives it inordinate weight, but the intense lift of the feet, raising the apron sharply in the corners, eliminates the heaviness of the look. The projecting top is crafted of two boards, the last 3/4" along the front actually a continuation of the front of the chest up through the top, a somewhat unusual and perhaps unique construction method. Surrounding this is a dropped and applied molding over four graduated drawers. ... moreThese with molded lips of the solid, each framed with hand dovetailed poplar boards with a deeply chamfered poplar bottom sliding into rabbets in the frame and tacked at the back with square nails. The dovetailing method is somewhat original, using very large dovetails at the front, smaller dovetails at the back, the lowest back dovetail squared on it's lower edge to receive the drawer bottom in the rabbet cut. Flanking these drawers are chamfered columns on either side. Both sides of the case are single solid planks of walnut. Incredibly large boards with wonderful grain appearance. Five vertical poplar boards line the back of the case, these entirely undisturbed and nailed in neat rows, the boards on the far left and right sides continuing all the way to the ground. Round figured knobs appear to be original. Drawers have hand-cut lap dovetails and cockbeading of the type brought into use starting in the 1770s. Overall condition is excellent. There is a chip approximately 1" long from the veneer along the front right edge. Which no doubt can be easily repaired by a professional. Overall condition of the veneer is excellent, but there is some buckling on the left side of the piece, consistent with its age. Bottom features bracketed feet and an elegant shaped skirt on front and sides. For your consideration, this beautiful Burl Walnut Victorian Lock-side Chest of Drawers with Fold-Out Desk(Circa: 1880) This handsome Victorian Lock-side Chest has its original intact lock and a working key and measures 57” in height, 36 ¾” in width, and 20” in depth. The weight is approximately 120 pounds. The top of this handsome chest is graced with scalloped mounding. And incised carved linear designs with burl sconces on the top corners. The front sides of this lovely chest are adorned with incised carved burl sconces on the top corners that extend into fluted detailing and incised carved pediments. The original locking mechanism is intact on this gorgeous chest and a working key is included. Notice the fancy brass key escutcheons. This beautiful chest appears to have six drawers, but the third drawer ... moredown opens to reveal a fold-out desk compartment which consists of five pigeon-holes, a new black felt writing surface, birds-eye maple surface, along with beautiful pierced side galleries with sunflower carved details. Offered for auction is this nice large walnut mirror frame that attaches to the top of a chest of drawers. Two walnut supports with brass turn screw attachments support the mirror frame(no mirror) The supports have screw holes in the bases of them to be screwed down to the top of the chest. Mirror can be angled up or down with the brass adjustment handles. Frame has nice parallel carved reeded lines all around and the dimensions are outside. 35 1/4" x 29 1/8" Inside, 30" x 24 1/2" Weight is about 10 lbs.

Even common, this chest exudes a certain strength that is uncommon in Federal period works of the Hepplewhite style. The solid walnut and solid poplar construction gives it inordinate weight, but the intense lift of the feet, raising the apron sharply in the corners, eliminates the heaviness of the look. The projecting top is crafted of two boards, the last 3/4" along the front actually a continuation of the front of the chest up through ... morethe top, a somewhat unusual and perhaps unique construction method. Surrounding this is a dropped and applied molding over four graduated drawers. These with molded lips of the solid, each framed with hand dovetailed poplar boards with a deeply chamfered poplar bottom sliding into rabbets in the frame and tacked at the back with square nails. The dovetailing method is somewhat original, using very large dovetails at the front, smaller dovetails at the back, the lowest back dovetail squared on it's lower edge to receive the drawer bottom in the rabbet cut. Flanking these drawers are chamfered columns on either side. Both sides of the case are single solid planks of walnut. Incredibly large boards with wonderful grain appearance. Five vertical poplar boards line the back of the case, these entirely undisturbed and nailed in neat rows, the boards on the far left and right sides continuing all the way to the ground. As a result of this construction method, the feet are in simply outstanding stable condition, despite the incredible weight being supported. What a sweet chest of drawers. Salesman sample from circa 1850. Made of Walnut It measures 9 inches tall 9 1/2 inches wide 5 3/4 deep The chest has a water stain on the top. I have never tried to bleach it out. It looks to have been finished in the past. The rear of one of the drawers looks like it had been nibbled on in it's past. See photo. I have owned it for 25 years purchased it from an estate in Maine. You can see in the photo that they did a repair to the top left corner of the top drawer Patched with care. 19th Century Chest of Drawers This is a fantastic piece of historical furniture. This is a chest of drawers or dresser from the early to mid 1800's. It appears to be constructed primarily of walnut wood. There are several distinguishing features that influence our opinion as to the date of this piece: The dresser was constructed with square-head nails. Which were used from the late 1700's to the late 1800's. It is constructed of solid-wood boards measuring up to 16" in width. Which could only have been made from very large trees long ago. The dovetails used to construct the front and back of the drawers are all hand-cut. The smallest drawer has 3 tails and 4 pins. And the larger drawers have up to 5 tails and 6 pins. The drawer bottoms are chamfered, meaning the front and side edges and the drawer bottoms are finished at ... morea slop. While the inside top of the drawer is flat. This was cut and finished by hand-held tools, which is an indication that it is pre-1840. All of the saw cuts in the wood appear to be parallel rather than circular. This indicates the use of mill saws during construction. The wood also appears to be hand-planed. The dresser features turned-wood pulls. Which we believe to be original. It also has paneled sides, which was a feature in many early Philidelphia chests of drawers. This piece is in good. Antique condition overall with some general signs of age and use. There is a significant crack in the drawer second from the top. It is still structurally sound. All of the drawers have locks, but we do not have the matching key. This piece has cracks, wear, chips, discoloration and repairs that are consistant with a piece of this age. The"flaws" only contribute to the primateive nature of this chest of drawers. They quietly tell the stories of its life. The dresser measures 45 7/8" tall by 42 5/8" wide by 20" deep. The drawer faces are all 36" wide. The height of the drawer faces from top to bottom are: 1st- 9 3/4" 2nd- 5 3/4" 3rd- 6 3/4"

Circa 1890 Burled walnut with walnut cross band No key Crackled top and drawer fronts Bracket feet Very sturdy Easily opening drawers, This antique Victorian burled walnut chest of drawers was originally made in England around 1890. The beautiful burled walnut front and top is accompanied by walnut cross banding on the edges of the drawers and around the top. This walnut has developed an almost almond brown color over the years and is quite attractive with the swirled grain. Although the chest has locks. No key remains. ... moreAll of the five drawers are well opening drawers with Hepplewhite style brass batwing pulls. Each drawer was constructed with hand cut dovetails, a sign of age and craftsmanship. Tall bracket feet finish the piece off nicely at the bottom. You will notice that the top and bottom mouldings appear to have been done in sections. We believe this was intentional and it does not appear like repairs. The wood has developed crackling over the drawer fronts and top surface. This gives the chest a distressed look and provides character and charm to an already lovely dresser! Other minor dings and marks can be found here and there as you would expect from something of this age. Overall this burled walnut chest of drawers is in very good condition. Is quite sturdy, and would make a beautiful addition to any home. A view of the back. A stunning piece from all angles! Both sides are nicely finished. Sturdy and tall bracket feet. Some talented woodcrafter made it and the bottoms of the drawers and the boards on the back are handhewn. It is walnut and even though some of the boards on the back have been replaced they are walnut also. The drawer runners have been replaced so that the drawers work easily. Other than than and the back. It is all orginal. The top has had some minor repair that is shown in two of the pictures. The piece has 4 drawers, top one extends out over the rest giving it a very elegant look. The top is 45" wide, 21 1/2" deep at the top drawer and 20" deep the rest of the way down. There are 4 drawers as you can see, roomy. I show a picture of the dovetails on the drawers, also the inside of one of the drawers with a knothole. There is ... morea picture of one end and the other end is the same, too dark in that area to take a picture. If you notice all the junk around the room, this is my warehouse so excuse the mess. This chest is very heavy overall and each drawer is heavy. Buyer will need to make arrangements to pick it up or have a shipper pick it up.
