Fine Antique English George III Bachelors Chest of Drawers Dresser c. 1760-80

Description: This listing is for a Fine English Chippendale Two over Three Drawer Bachelors Chest. C. 1760-80. It is crafted of solid mahogany, using broad boards to construct the top and sides, each two board construction. An applied molded carved rim wraps around the perimeter of the top. Two smaller drawers rest over three wide graduated drawers, each with entirely original brasses and very early(possibly original) locks, being constructed of oak secondary woods hand dovetailed with a flat bottom beneath applied runners and nailed at the back with original rosehead nails. Each drawer features full length dustboards between each drawer to protect the contents of each drawer from dust and dirt as the drawer moves in and out ... moreof the case- it also supports each drawer, allowing for a smooth flowing motion in the case. The chest rests over four large bracket feet, each fully original with original blocking on all but one of the feet. The back is original as well, constructed of four pine boards lined with original hand forged rosehead nails. The secondary pine triangle supporting the back feet dovetails into the feet, making them permanent and also a rather unique detail of design. This is a remarkably well preserved chest. With originality in almost every facet of the case. It is incredibly dense and heavy, built to last the test of time- attention was shown in every detail of the construction, allowing this chest to survive and thrive two hundred and fifty years later. It is an outstanding acquisition for any collector of English Chippendale furniture and a treasure that will be enjoyed in your home for many generations to come. This is a charming English made solid cherry antique dresser circa 1810. I acquired this from a couple who came to the United States from England. This piece is consistent with English cabinetmaking.This is made from solid cherry planks. The candle stands which flank the mirror are wonderful.The carvings and hand turned finials are beautiful. The hardware is all original except for the 2 small upper drawers which is new. All of the lower drawers have locks which work excellently with a new key. The hand cut dovetail joinery and hand chamfered drawer bottoms are beautiful. The drawer fronts are 1" thick solid cherry, there is no veneer on this entire piece.The secondary wood is poplar. The mirror glass is new.The mirror is on tilting mounts(it does not stay fixed when tilted. Just let in hang vertically) This piece has lots of battle ... morescars(nicks, dings etc) and some repairs earned over its lifetime such as dings in both side panels about the size of a"pea" The top(across the full width.left to right) has an age separation shrinkage crack which I repaired(you can still tell there was a crack despite the repair(see photo) some drawer bottoms have age shrinkage separations,there are some age shrinkage separations(cracks) in the side panels, worn edges, small stains in the top and character marks consistent with any fine antique.I refinished the top and the mirror frame, after repairing a missing piece of wood around the mirror thumb screw. The inlaid brass keyhole escutcheons are all in place. Most of the dresser has the original finish with a gorgeous patina as you can easily see in the mirror support photos etc. This wonderful piece will look beautiful wherever you decide to place it whether an entryway. English Regency 6 Drawer Chest Dresser, Egyptian Motifs, Mahogany, ~1820 Antique
This is an English. Circa 1820, six drawer chest or dresser. It is made with thick, bookmatched mahogany veneer over pine, double raised panel sides, and fluted columns resting on strong spade feet. The original Egyptian Revival gilt brasses celebrated Britain's 1798 defeat of Napoleon in The Battle of the Nile, and the subsequent discoveries of Egyptian art and culture. The chest is 50" high, 40 3/8" wide, and 23 1/8" deep. Five drawers are approximately 6 3/4" high, and the bottom drawer is 8 1/2" high. I cannot find a maker's identification, but the frame and drawers are hand numbered in pencil. This chest was professionally refinished approximately 30 years ago, and it has been used irregularly since that time. Small areas in the secondary wood of the drawers were filled at the time of refinishing, but ... morethis appears to have been done for cosmetic purposes only. There is no movement in any of the joinery including the legs, and the drawers work very well for a chest of this age. As is appropriate, I suspect the chest with drawers weighs 250 lbs. There are age appropriate scratches and bumps here and there, and particularly on the top and top drawer face. Also, there is long-term wear to the veneer at the location of the ring pulls. Many of the hardware posts(which hold the ring pulls) have been replaced, and the two original posts on the bottom drawer are a bit loose. Further, some of the nuts that fasten the pulls to the drawers have been replaced. Lastly, one of the drawer locks is missing, as is the key. I would recommend Ball and Ball, Exton for the repair, replacement and or keying of the locks. I believe the clean lines and strong profiles of this chest exemplify good Regency furniture. RARE - Antique English Yew Wood Dresser, c. 1810-30
This is a beautiful antique English dresser from 1810-30. It is made of walnut with a Yew Wood veneer on the front. Yew wood was usually only used in smaller veneered pieces or as accents to other veneers. The piece has two smaller drawers over three large drawers. It has a Biedermeier look to it. But the owner brought it in from England some years ago.you decide. The brass hardware is very old, but probably not original to the piece. The insides of the drawers are painted with silver radiator paint to protect against worms. It is in excellent condition. The pictures show one piece of the veneer in the top right corner, which has since been professionally reattached. It measures 36" wide, 17 1/2" deep(19" deep to handles) and 38" tall. 19th Century English Victorian Antique Wooden Mirrored Vanity / Washstand /Desk
This beautiful Victorian vanity was designed with many details that capture your eyes. The overall condition is great considering its age- most probably Victorian 1800s(the piece's age is our opinion based on comparisons we've done on the internet) The pictures show the minor chip and the place where a missing dowel bar might have been(it can easily be replaced) The wood is beautiful and the piece's craftsmanship is excellent. It was well taken care of. The piece has three original mirrors- the dominant large center mirror that tilts. And the smaller mirrors on each side which are underneath the small upper drawers. The drawers are dovetailed and slide in and out smoothly. They also have original fancy hardware. Dimensions: 50 1/2" W x 23 1/2" D x 73 1/2" H. English 1840 Antique Mahogany Small Chest or Console. This small chest or console was expertly reduced in size about 100 years ago from a larger chest or dresser. Originally hand made about 1840 in England. Mahogany wood is beautifully figured. The top is cut from a single shimmering plank. Drawers have hand dovetailed solid oak sides and later brass pulls are from about 1890. The old finish is very fine with warm antique patina and has been waxed and polished. So only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain the glowing luster. Size is 41" long. 12 1/2" deep and 26 1/2" tall. Circa 1870, originating from England. The top of the dresser features a dark rich oak two-plank top. Below, there is a central ... morebank of four working drawers. Flanking this, is a cupboard either side with an additional drawer above. Inside the cupboards the shelves are removable; just in case you need to store larger items. The dresser features the original solid brass escutcheons with swan neck handles. The two cupboard doors feature working locks and a key. The dresser stands on its original Georgian style bracket feet. The original backboards are constructed of pine, which is typical for a dresser of this style. As this item boasts the original polish. The beautiful burled walnut front and top is accompanied by walnut cross banding on the edges of the drawers and around the top. This walnut has developed an almost almond brown color over the years and is quite attractive with the swirled grain. Although the chest has locks. No key remains. ... moreAll of the five drawers are well opening drawers with Hepplewhite style brass batwing pulls. Each drawer was constructed with hand cut dovetails, a sign of age and craftsmanship. Tall bracket feet finish the piece off nicely at the bottom. You will notice that the top and bottom mouldings appear to have been done in sections. We believe this was intentional and it does not appear like repairs. The wood has developed crackling over the drawer fronts and top surface. This gives the chest a distressed look and provides character and charm to an already lovely dresser! Other minor dings and marks can be found here and there as you would expect from something of this age. Overall this burled walnut chest of drawers is in very good condition. This beautiful Nut Mirror is a rare piece of Antique. The wooden carvings are slightly golden. The inside is nut or wallnut fineer. Look at the backside and see that everything looks okay.
