French Louis XVI Style Marquetry Inlaid Demilune Marble Topped Commode Early 20th Century Item# 130008LWP26 Simply gorgeous and perfectly preserved in every way. This fine French Louis XVI Style Commode is simply above reproach. At least a century after being crafted entirely by hand, the commode remains in nearly identical condition to when it left the shop. Clearly maintained in a home that cared for it and kept humidity at a stable level throughout it's life, the piece does not display the typical issues commonly associated with these heavily inlaid works of art. The mixed stone brèche d'Alep top is a wonderful variated surface. Full of color and activity, completed with a thin molded channel around the edge of the demilune form. The facade is a mix of five drawers and two cabinet doors; the top drawer is broad with crossbanded ... moreveneers framed in olivewood stringer inlay. It rests over a pair of drawers with a continuous inlaid image of a vase overflowing with flowers and foliage, hanging from a bow-tied ribbon draped on the keyhole escutcheon over a cross banded ground and framed in the same stepped rectangular olivewood stringer inlay that completes each drawer and door. The inlay is incredible intricate. And remarkably there is no peeling or lifting along the edges of this veneer, as typically happens when the piece is stored in an environment with poorly controlled temperature and humidity. On either side of the cabinet, small drawers swing outwards over the cabinet doors, these hand dovetailed at the back of each. The cabinet space is divided with a single shelf. The entire commode rests over turned and tapered legs that are topped and terminated in brass mounts. This is an outstanding find for any collector of French Louis XV and XVI antique furniture. My husband inherited it from a client approximately 20 years ago. He has since past and I do not know the complete history. It was in exellent condition when I met him and remained that was until we moved to a new home about six years ago. It was sitting over an A/C vent I do not know for sure but I believe that may have dried it out and caused the veneer to start chipping. If the right person knew how to fix or restore the veneer it would be perfect piece. The Green Italian Marble top is in pristiene condition. as are the drawers, legs and ornate brass fixtures. Here we a pleasure to offer you this beautiful turn of the 19th to 20th century inlaid Dutch Marquetry Commode. The inlay is superb. Featuring matching floral inlay running across the drawers, spiced up with the original set of bronze handles(hardware) Each drawer has it's own original antique lock. Sides are done in one large scene, a floral arrangement coming out of the large classical urns. Entire piece hides fantasy/ mythological faces within it's inlay(see the detailed photos) Top has beautiful matching inlay as well. Also, please note the quality of the detail, just terrific! I took the photos of the back, and more importantly of the drawer body, so you can see the quality of the secondary wood, construction and dovetailing. French Louis XV Style Marble Antique Commode Chest of Drawers, Exquisite Inlays
FRENCH LOUIS XV STYLE INLAID MARBLE TOP COMMODE Early 20th Century Item# 1408KIT10P Exquisitely inlaid. The surface of this fine commode is a vivid display of flowers and foliage on intermingling vines over a parquetry background. The mounts on either corner are heavily acanthus in nature, rather bold and conforming appropriately with the Rococo naturalism of the pulls and central apron motif. The sabots are typical for the style, very nicely cast and of appropriate substance for the size of the case. The castings are of medium fine detail, ranking above most peers of it's period in terms of chasing and filing of details. The craftsmanship is impeccable, the top revealing a mixture of tongue-in-groove and dovetail joinery while both drawers are crafted with large dovetails at the front and back joints using solid golden oak planks. Eastlake Aesthetic 1880 Matching 3 Drawer Chest and Bedside Commode Marble Tops
Absolutely stunning set of Eastlake Aesthetic bedroom furniture! They are oak and maple burl drawer front veneers. Edges have maple leaf relief carvings. These have ALL original pewter pulls and hardware and they are in amazing condition. There are a few specks of paint and dirt but no major problems with the finish. The commode is missing it's backsplash and the marble on the chest has a rough rear edge as well as a small very pale yellowish spot about 2 inches wide on the left side. Additional pictures can be taken if requested. These are local pick up only. I will not allow them to be shipped from my premises in any way shape or form.

D ESCRIPTION: Antique French ormolu-mounted Louis XV style cabinet/commode. Late 19th or possibly early 20th century and is painted in the Vernis Martin style, with all frontal cabinet paintings having scrolled bronze framing, The upper portion of the cabinet is a beehive design with eight petite, dove tailed draws in varying sizes. The top single draw is adorned with a putti/cupid, the next four draws, in tandem, have floral motifs and each of the three remaining smaller draws, display miniature paintings of estates. Both sides of the upper cabinet are decorated with a motif of musical instruments, ribbons and a book. The cabinet mid section has a narrow pull out, fall front draw, adorned with floral paintings, over bombe doors, with opposing paintings of a man and women, each seated in a bergere and dressed in traditional french attire. ... moreBoth lower sides of the cabinets depict scenes of fountains in garden/park. The double doors open up to reveal an interior cabinet with one fixed shelf. The cabinet rests on cabriolet legs with the front two terminating in bronze sabots. Note: The front.
