The columns end on turned feet. The drawer fronts have a stunning flame mahogany veneer with old molded round brass rosette pulls. American Pennsylvania Chippendale Walnut Lowboy over Trifid Feet After the original period works of Philadelphia and Chester County. Pennsylvania Probably crafted during the mid-to-late 19th Century Item# 130102YTP18 This is a simply gorgeous American Pennsylvania Chippendale(Style) Lowboy Antique Chest of Drawers crafted in solid walnut. While every detail is careful executed in the manner of the original works. We believe this piece was actually crafted nearly one-hundred years after the period during the mid-to-late 19th Century. It features a fine two board top, the majority being a single solid plank with only the last few inches at the back being crafted of a second joined board, the grain selected carefully and quite fine. The edge has a carved quarter-round molding of the solid, scalloping at each front corner, projecting generously ... moreover the chest. Three small drawers rest above the deeply serpentine apron, each joined front and back with fine scored dovetails, the bottom deeply chamfered and rabbeting into the sides, period Queen Anne hardware on each drawer face. The apron around the entire table is noteworthy: bold. Flowing, inspiring, the overall flow of the skirt gives incredible lift to the table. It gives robustness to the form, the lines active and dancing, the table looking poised for action. The three-scrolled form of the apron matches the trifid form of the foot, almost matching it's proportional flow. The legs are carved of a single solid piece of walnut from the table top to the foot, the sides of the table tenoned into the top of the leg and pegged symmetrically before curving in bold knees over fine cabriole form. This American Chippendale Lowboy is above reproach. A simply outstanding piece for a serious collector of benchmade works not concerned with the period of craftmanship. While not of the period, it has garnered a very fine patina in the shellac finish, the wood with a light oxidization throughout, the pine and poplar deeply oxidized and with great character in the finish. Being offered here is a vintage three drawer dresser with exquisite architectural lines and hardware. Please view pictures for details. We are not sure if the wood is walnut or oak. The overall height of this chest measures 66 ½" tall and overall 38 3/8" wide. The marble top measures 17 ½" deep and is 38 3/8" wide. The dresser is 17" deep and 36 ½" wide. The beveled glass on the mirror measures 29 ½" wide and 23 ½" tall. The wheels make this furniture stand 2" off of the floor. One of the knots in the wood on the backside has a whole in it. We did not notice any cracks in the wood on this chest. It has wonderfully old patina and the brass hardware is stunning on the burl finish of the dovetailed drawers. American Federal Period Walnut Chest of Drawers Four graduated drawers flanked by chamfered columns over splayed French feet Pennsylvania. C. 1800-15 Item# 130101PHP13 While the Hepplewhite form employing splayed french feet in case pieces is well developed. Even common, this chest exudes a certain strength that is uncommon in Federal period works of the Hepplewhite style. The solid walnut and solid poplar construction gives it inordinate weight, but the intense lift of the feet, raising the apron sharply in the corners, eliminates the heaviness of the look. The projecting top is crafted of two boards, the last 3/4" along the front actually a continuation of the front of the chest up through the top, a somewhat unusual and perhaps unique construction method. Surrounding this is a dropped and applied molding over four graduated drawers. ... moreThese with molded lips of the solid, each framed with hand dovetailed poplar boards with a deeply chamfered poplar bottom sliding into rabbets in the frame and tacked at the back with square nails. The dovetailing method is somewhat original, using very large dovetails at the front, smaller dovetails at the back, the lowest back dovetail squared on it's lower edge to receive the drawer bottom in the rabbet cut. Flanking these drawers are chamfered columns on either side. Both sides of the case are single solid planks of walnut. Incredibly large boards with wonderful grain appearance. Five vertical poplar boards line the back of the case, these entirely undisturbed and nailed in neat rows, the boards on the far left and right sides continuing all the way to the ground. As a result of this construction method, the feet are in simply outstanding stable condition, despite the incredible weight being supported. The feet are entirely original, the interior blocking of each a complex and almost puzzle-like formation. Sometime later a very skilled carpenter reduced its depth to fit a particular spot as a console. Entirely hand made of solid cherry and shimmering tiger or curly maple. The satiny finish is excellent. The front edge of the cherry top is beautiful- natural golden sapwood. When the drawers were shortened, they were hand dovetailed, just as when first made. Walnut knobs on the top two drawers are still secured with wooden dowels instead of screws. Drawer bottoms are chamfered on this charming American antique. When the drawers are opened. Being offered for sale is this American Empire Mahogany& Crotch Mahogany Chest with Mirror with large Carved Paw Feet circa 1880's. This is a large beautiful 19th century chest that offers a tremendous amount of storage possibilities with all the drawers in crotch mahogany with period glass pulls. The original crotch mahogany framed beveled mirror with powerful S scroll mirror supports and carved Paw Feet with hidden casters intact on the feet and we believe this piece to also have its original finish. This outstanding Empire chest measures 71 inches in height from the floor to the top of the mirror. Height from the floor to the front portion measures 42 1/2 inches, total width of the dresser is 43 1/2 inches, total depth of 23 1/2 inches and weighs approximately 160 lbs. The original beveled mirror measures 23 1/2 inches high by ... more23 1/2 inches wide. This chest does disassemble into 3 pieces for easier handling during shipping and moving. All of the locks are intact on this piece but we do not have the key. The original beveled mirror does show some streaking and spotting as common in antique mirrors. And the mirror does pivot front to back to adjust for viewing. The left mirror support does present with an old repair that seems solid and tight, the right plumage above the foot shows some chipping and there is an area of missing veneer on the left side edge at the top and a cluster of scratches on the left side panel this is typical of these Empire pieces and doesn't affect the integrity of the piece by no means, just a part of the time worn characteristics these old pieces have endured over the past 100 years or so. Gorgeous carved solid walnut Gentleman's 6 drawer dresser chest original finish
This is a beautiful example of a Gentleman's dresser or chest. Early Victorian era and style. The sides and front of the dresser are solid walnut, as are the dove-tailed drawer fronts. With the added beauty of burled walnut oval panels. The black and brass teardrop drawer pulls are old and not reproduction, but not original to the piece. There probably was either a tw o- post earlier brass handle or a carved pull. T he finish is original. It has two vanity boxes on top. And the dresser is finished off with a small wood pediment bet ween the vanity boxes. I estimate this chest to be from the 1880's. Which makes it one hundred and thirty years old. It has had very good care throughout its' life. And is in excellent condition, with just wear due to age and usage. The burl veneer is all intact. None missing-which is incredible for ... moreits' age! There is one slightly lighter ring on the top and a few scratches on the bottom panel. But nothing noticeable. There are four drawers-the two in the center are slightly less deep and the top and bottom ones are a little deeper. Due to the design of the chest. There are carved and turned supports up the front corners of each side. Ending in a spoon-carved small corbel on either side. This piece has more character than most of the Victorian dressers I've seen and was probably a high-end piece in its' day. There is a key that came with the dresser, that fits the locks-but, they won't turn, for the most part. So, it could be made to lock, but, at the moment, it won't. The brass locks are all there. The measurements are: 41 inches wide by 47 inches high by 17 inches deep. I am happy to take and send more photos. If you are interested. The dresser can be picked-up. 19th c. Solid Red Oak Hand-Carved 3-Drawer Chest Magnificently Constructed
Just look at the details of the hand carvings and you can see the inconsistencies that denotes the mark of the carver's hand- the lovely'acorn on leaf' drawer pulls are all hand-carved. But no two are alike-they're like the snoflakes of drawer pulls. They all look alike. But they are all distinctively different. To me. This makes the piece quite sweet and charming. You'll see many of these types of carved pulls from time to time. But rarely will you see the drawers trimmed in the elongated oval like on these drawer fronts-VERY nice accent. There are wooden escutcheons on the three drawer. The top being triangular and the other two being round in shape. There is some very perfect cracking on the edge of the top. Just enough to be artistically welcome. But not enough to compromise the structure of the piece. The center drawer ... moreis on hinges. And opens up like a breadbox. The hand-carved skirt is impressive. The drawers had locks. Mostly missing However. With black ebony pinstripe ... moreinlaid, four drawers, a fall front, dating from the 1880s and straight off the container from Denmark. I didn’t think we could beat the one we had in our last load, but this one is simply breathtaking. It’s very unusual, with the lighter amber color olive ash burl walnut through the entire piece, including the hard-to-find reverse cove crown top, all along the face, the molding on the lid and the interior. It comes with a large key for the writing lid, and a little key for the interior. This chest has an applied bracket foot base, which is unusual. This one has extra molding, ebony pinstripe inlay, and a raised panel back. It also has hand-cut dovetail drawers, and the finish is all original. The entire cabinet is original, in fact, except for one little piece of molding that was missing and we replaced. The overall size is 38.5 inches wide, 19.5 inches deep, and 67.5 inches tall. The attention to detail given to the design of this Chest is splendid! The fancy and very ornate removable top gallery is graced with scalloped moulding. Large globe finials, carved rosette roundels and additional incised carvings. The corners of the gallery are adorned with turned finials.
