C. 1900-15 Item# 130001KKG27 This is a very fine French Louis XVI Style Antique Settee with Gilded Carved surfaces. Crafted during the first years of the 20th Century at the end of the Rococo Revival period, c. 1900-15. It is an exceptional piece in every way, the molding work on every exposed surface is simply above reproach. The crest rail is bowed with an unusual carved design at the apex, lifting in swirls and actually flowing up and over the back of the settee. This is flanked on each corner with highly detailed acorn finials over floral carvings that fall along the stiles. The arms are likewise decorated, the handholds with carved acanthus leaves, the arm supports with scaled molding over acanthus foliage at the knees. The modern upholstery ... moreis a soft yellow with collections of fruits and foliage throughout, a comfortable stuffed back and a somewhat more supportive and firm seat. The apron of the antique french settee is a complex infiniti-motif closed on each end with swirled-rosettes at the knees. Rare Old Hickory Settee Adirondack Sofa Circa 1930's
This is an outstanding circa 1930's rustic Hickory Settee made by the prison inmates in the Putnamville Prison Farm in Putnamville. Indiana. The settee is made of hickory and retains the original natural finish. It has the original beautiful herringbone pattern woven willow seat. The settee is in excellent original condition. The seat is also in excellent condition except for a few very minor weavings that are missing. This piece has a wonderful old patina. It is a rare piece from our private collection. Height-33 1/2" Width-46" This piece is featured on page 89 in the State of Indiana Putnamville Indiana Furniture catalog of the 1930's. This catalog is featured in The collected Works of Indiana Hickory Furniture Makers by author Ralph Kylloe. From Mr. Kylloe's book. As mentioned earlier, the State of Indiana also had ... morea significant influence on the hickory furniture movement.The prison catalogue printed herein suggests that many of the pieces that were originally thought to have been made by the commercial companies were actually constructed by inmates at the State Farm in Putnamville. What is interested is that many of their designs demonstrate significant aesthetic appreciation and construction innovation. The special chair and rocker,gliders, leanbacks, chaise lounges, benches, and beds for example, have long been recognized as innovative contributions to the hickory furniture movement and are highly sought after by dealers and collectors. The prison started making hickory in 1929, just prior to the stock market crash. The furniture was sold to other state agencies and exhibited at many of the state parks including the Abe Martin Lodge in Brown County State Park in Nashville, Indiana. Emphasis, on the part of the prison, was never mass production of its furniture, so large quantities were not shipped from the prison. Their pieces were noted for careful construction and attention to detail.

Exquisite 1920s antique settee in absolutely wonderful condition! This graceful piece looks amazing at the foot of the bed and can also dress up a hallway or any other part of your home. This piece is fully upholstered on all sides and thus looks wonderful from the front and back! Settee was newly reupholstered in 2012 in a gorgeous pale cream and green stipe. The solid mahogony wood shows wonderfully against the new upholstery. Graceful legs have attached wheels for easy moving. We are sad to lose this amazing piece- but are simply out of room! This beautiful example having been upholstered in purple linen style material have a padded back over two well sprung seats with horsehair stuffing flanked by solid arm supports finished with stunning walnut fascias and being raised on squat chromium supports. The sofa is solid in build being free from any rips or stains and is also very comfortable being ready for use. Truly a work of art. This settee belonged to my grandmother who loved French antiques. My estimate is this settee was created in the early 1900s. It has fine inlay lines and an eye-catching motif in the center of the wood top. There is one nick on the arm on the left side which has been stained by a professional to match the color of the wood.
