The antique store that I bought this set from told me that the set is made of walnut wood. From Italy. The set is really sturdy and there are no damages to the wood. This Duncan Phyfe sofa is in very good condition. The particular style is a straight back that extends into gracious curves to meet the signature"sleigh" style arms. Duncan Phyfe traditionally worked in rich mahogany and cherry wood and this appears to be mahogany- with detailed hand carving. Supported on detailed clawed feet with brass tips. Rare Old Hickory Settee Adirondack Sofa Circa 1930's
This is an outstanding circa 1930's rustic Hickory Settee made by the prison inmates in the Putnamville Prison Farm in Putnamville. Indiana. The settee is made of hickory and retains the original natural finish. It has the original beautiful herringbone pattern woven willow seat. The settee is in excellent original condition. The seat is also in excellent condition except for a few very minor weavings that are missing. This piece has a wonderful old patina. It is a rare piece from our private collection. Height-33 1/2" Width-46" This piece is featured on page 89 in the State of Indiana Putnamville Indiana Furniture catalog of the 1930's. This catalog is featured in The collected Works of Indiana Hickory Furniture Makers by author Ralph Kylloe. From Mr. Kylloe's book. As mentioned earlier, the State of Indiana also had ... morea significant influence on the hickory furniture movement.The prison catalogue printed herein suggests that many of the pieces that were originally thought to have been made by the commercial companies were actually constructed by inmates at the State Farm in Putnamville. What is interested is that many of their designs demonstrate significant aesthetic appreciation and construction innovation. The special chair and rocker,gliders, leanbacks, chaise lounges, benches, and beds for example, have long been recognized as innovative contributions to the hickory furniture movement and are highly sought after by dealers and collectors. The prison started making hickory in 1929, just prior to the stock market crash. The furniture was sold to other state agencies and exhibited at many of the state parks including the Abe Martin Lodge in Brown County State Park in Nashville, Indiana. Emphasis, on the part of the prison, was never mass production of its furniture, so large quantities were not shipped from the prison. Their pieces were noted for careful construction and attention to detail.

What we have here is An Original. Excellent condition, Machine Age” tubular chrome sofa, designed by: K.E.M. Weber for the Lloyd Manufacturing Company(a Heywood-Wakefield company) c. the 1930’s. This piece is in 100% it’s original condition. Despite being around 80 years young. This sofa looks practically New! There are no; cuts, tares, burns, rips, holes, or blemishes to the original upholstery. There are six removable cushions(the three seat cushions have a bottom lining of black canvas/material) The upholstery is sienna brown in color, trimmed in a butter/cream and having an almost hide like leather texture. The sofas steel frame is nearly pristine, and is intact with all of the original: hardware, lacquered blonde sculpted wood arm rests, and the original veneered board bottom(that is bolted and secured) on top of the frames metal platform. ... moreThe original Lloyd Manufacturing Co. factory sticker is equally in as remarkable a shape as the rest of the piece. Fully intact and legible, the sticker can be found on the underneath side of the frame below the seat cushions. The only few and very small signs of ware that are present on this piece are: very minimal amounts of rust/oxidation on the steel around the base and back of frame. As well as a couple of tiny areas of discoloration on the upholstery where the leather sat against the metal. And that is all, as far as the imperfections go! In addition to the sofas amazing condition. Rare designer and highly valuable and reputable producer, this sofa also seems to be a limited or special edition piece, from the famous K.E.M. Oscar Wilde A Good c.1930 Art Deco Period Leather Club Sofa Period: Art Deco Provenance: Unknown Date: c.1925-35 Height: 31.5 inches Width: 62 inches Depth: 36 inches(all at maximum) The early twentieth century quality leather and close studwork upholstered two-seater sofa. Hailing from the Art Deco period, having cigar shaped arms, the whole of deep and roomy proportions sitting on Deco inspired angular fanned feet. In what we like to describe as‘country house condition’ The sofa is in fair to good overall condition. She does not require re-springing or any major structural repairs and she is sturdy and with no replacement parts. The leather to the whole is of good quality and is worn, but appealingly so, ... morenow wonderfully supple. There are old patches and three tears present to include one to the lower front, four to her back, two of which are patched and one area of peel to a shoulder. Although none of the tears are too detrimental to the whole, indeed they could be repaired, she is suitably priced to reflect these imperfections. The word"club" in club chair harks back to the gentlemen's clubs in nineteenth century England where a gentleman could go to get away from his household(including womenfolk) Once there. 1930's Mahogany Trimmed Sofa and Two Matching Chairs
This auction if for one sofa and two side chairs. The set was originally bought in the 1930's and then reupholstered in 1962 in the current fabric. The couch measures about 80 inches at the widest point. And 34 inches tall to the top of the filigree carving. The wingback chair is around 35 inches wide, and 39 inches tall to the top of the filigree carving. The other chair is around 35 inches wide, and 35 inches tall to the top of the filigree carving. The sofa has three shaped, carved feet in the front and two curved but not decorative feet in the back. The other two chairs have shaped, and carved feet in the front but only curved feet in the back. The fabric on the sofa and chairs are in excellent condition with only a bit of wear. This is a killer Antique Art Deco Sofa. The stylized wooden accents on the arms and the clubby feet are made of dark stained Birch. The fabric is a soothing Sage Gray colored Mohair with nailhead trim. The lines are at the same time boxy and curvy with classic art deco style. There is a small area. About 3"x 3" on the seat that the fabric is slightly lighter in color, as if someone cleaned a stain too well. An outstanding 2 piece parlor set. Picked them up at auction here in Upstate New York. Believed to be from the 1930's. Heavily carved dark walnut with spectacular upholstery. Sofa measures 77" long. 33" deep and 33.5" tall at it's tallest point. Chair measures 30" wide, 30" deep and 33" tall. Both pieces need the seems sewed on the cushions unless you flip them. I am not a seamstress so I'll leave that up to the buyer. Outside if that. I would recommend a cleaning of the upholstery as I would with any items this old to bring back the amazing luster. The wood has a few flemishes, but to be expected from an antique. Maximum length is 76 1/2 inches by 4 1/2 inches. Seat is 68 inches by 24 inches. 18 inches tall. It is in superb condition and is upholstered in a fine cream fabric from the exclusive Beacon Hill range of fabrics. 1930's Green Leather Chesterfield Tufted Sofa (Last time Listing)
1930's Winchester button tufted green sofa. In amazing shape for its age. The leather button tuft portion is still soft and pliable. No cracks. Tears or rips. The brass knobs are all there and still bright as well. The seat cushions are in decent shape. The center cushion does have some cracking in the leather but could be repaired if desired. The sofa also has roller style wheels on the bottom for easy movement. Payment is due within 48hrs of auction ending unless other arrangements are made with me.
