French Louis XVI Style Carved and Gilded Antique Settee(Sofa. Canape, Loveseat) Probably France. C. 1900-15 Item# 130001KKG27 This is a very fine French Louis XVI Style Antique Settee with Gilded Carved surfaces. Crafted during the first years of the 20th Century at the end of the Rococo Revival period, c. 1900-15. It is an exceptional piece in every way, the molding work on every exposed surface is simply above reproach. The crest rail is bowed with an unusual carved design at the apex, lifting in swirls and actually flowing up and over the back of the settee. This is flanked on each corner with highly detailed acorn finials over floral carvings that fall along the stiles. The arms are likewise decorated, the handholds with carved acanthus leaves, the arm supports with scaled molding over acanthus foliage at the knees. The modern upholstery ... moreis a soft yellow with collections of fruits and foliage throughout, a comfortable stuffed back and a somewhat more supportive and firm seat. The apron of the antique french settee is a complex infiniti-motif closed on each end with swirled-rosettes at the knees. The entire sofa resting over twist-turned tapered legs terminating in plain ball feet. This is a very fine antique french settee. Crafted entirely by hand with utmost precision and care during an important revival of the French styles. With a wealth of demand for revivals of the 18th Century works, many very high quality pieces were renewed during this era, much of it brought into the States to satisfy the significant demand of discerning clients during the period. French Louis XVI Style Upholstered Canape 20th Century w/ a worn gilded gesso surface Item# 130009HAP22 This is a very cute French Louis XVI Style settee in an old yellow upholstery. The frame is heavily carved solid walnut beneath a light layer of gesso and is covered in an oxidized and worn gilding. Carved in the typical Louis XVI manner. The frame is molded with rope carvings around the entirety of it and is crested by a twisted ribbon wreath. Resting over tapered and fluted legs and terminating in balled stumps, the settee remains incredibly sturdy and strong; it is very comfortable and supportive for lounging and relaxing, despite having been designed primarily as a stunning decorative work. This is a piece that, with a fresh upholstery, will be a simply gorgeous addition to any formal living room. This Louis XVI style canape(late 1800s) with caned seat and back comes with a custom down cushion which makes this piece very comfortable. The down cushion is covered in white cotton fabric that looks great alone or it can be covered in silk.
