C. 1900-15 Item# 130001KKG27 This is a very fine French Louis XVI Style Antique Settee with Gilded Carved surfaces. Crafted during the first years of the 20th Century at the end of the Rococo Revival period, c. 1900-15. It is an exceptional piece in every way, the molding work on every exposed surface is simply above reproach. The crest rail is bowed with an unusual carved design at the apex, lifting in swirls and actually flowing up and over the back of the settee. This is flanked on each corner with highly detailed acorn finials over floral carvings that fall along the stiles. The arms are likewise decorated, the handholds with carved acanthus leaves, the arm supports with scaled molding over acanthus foliage at the knees. It sort of has an Art Nouveau look to it. The settee is about 49" wide(seat itself is 42" and 37" tall. Both pieces have the Thonet paper label as well as the stenciled"Thonet Austria" The caning is hand woven not machine made. It would be very costly to have all this caning done today. Not sure if the caning is original but it is in excellent condition; the last picture shows a few very minor breaks in the chair seat. Also at some point somebody added some strengthening screws in the back of the chair(next to the last picture) The arm of the chair might have a repaired split where it joins the chair seat. I think this is absolutely beautiful. All the wood is original. It is a cherry veneer with the inlaid gold wood.The scrolling on it as you can see is very beautiful as well. I have never seen one like it. I bought it at an auction in the 70's. I had it reupholstered and that was all. It is 43 inches in length. It has wooden casters on the legs. Approx 18 inches from floor to seat. For something of this age over 100 years it is in remarkable good condition. It is comfortable to sit in. You would need to make your own arrangements for pick up. I live in the Kansas City vicinity in the Johnson County Kansas side.

These antiques were made to last, and this one has been cared for we've owned it for years as well and we haven't sat on it but a few times sadly! There's one circular stain on the bottom of one of the cushions, we did not try to remove as again this should be professionally cleaned.
