Probably c. 1900-1915 Item# 120010ERT222 ... moreThis is a beautiful Louis XV style carved Fruitwood or Beech Canape. Crafted after the originals of the mid-18th Century, probably during the years of 1900-1915 or thereabouts. It is a truly timeless design, replicated since it's origination in the first Rococo period in France even until today. This sofa is entirely carved by hand, the exposed frame around the sofa with crisp molding that culminates in the crest, a bouquet of flowers with mixed foliate. Acanthus leaves peak up over the frame along the serpentine top rail as it flows into curled arms that almost wrap into the front, creating that classic canape warmth and completing the overall flowing form of the design. The entire sofa is upholstered in a pink upholstery- please read the condition below, as it is in overall"good" condition, but has blemishes that are not well captured by the camera. The frame rests over a thick exposed apron that is carefully carved with the same floral motif at the crest, incredibly stable on four front legs and three back legs, each carved at the knee with a fine short cabriole profile to terminate in scrolled french toes. This is a beautiful work of Early 20th Century hand craftsmanship and will truly be a visual delight in any formal sitting room. It is incredibly sturdy and strong. Full of life to last many generations, and of a classic design that simply does not go out of style. Every generation has replicated this form, but due to high costs it is no longer crafted with this level of detail and hand craftsmanship. French Louis XV Style White Painted Antique Settee First half of the 20th Century Pegged Construction Item# 130004IWY21 This is a beautiful French Louis XV Style Painted Settee. Crafted entirely by hand during the first half of the 20th Century- the joinery is period in craftsmanship, utilizing pinned tenon mortise joints to secure much of the frame; the finest form of joinery, not only because it creates a natural strength that will last hundreds of years, but also because the pegs themselves add a character and beauty to the form. The surfaces are painted with a distressed off-white paint, several layers worn and rubbed to give it a faux patina throughout the surfaces. Carefully carved by hand. Every major juncture is highlighted with the typical motifs of Louis XV forms: the crest with a fine and multi-dimensional bouquet of flowers that ... morestretch out along the molded rail, the knees likewise carved with a single flower backed by foliage, the apron embellished at regular intervals with flowing groups of sprouted floral arrangements. With a busy floral decorated upholstery remaining in overall"excellent" condition, free of stains or noteworthy blemishes, it is a comfortable and very sturdy piece to rest on and enjoy. The entire frame of the settee rests over cabriole legs that terminate in scrolled toes. This is a simply gorgeous piece for anyone passionate about antique furnishings of the French influence. C scroll crest continuing down to outward scroll arms with decorative foliage leaves along the frame. Square rounded shape frames held cabriole legs and terminating with scroll feet.
