I have ... moreseen a few other pieces of Deutsch Brothers furniture but none in this decent of shape.We have been dealing in furniture for several years and have rarely seen these pieces come up. This was purchased from an entire estate locally here in Reno. Nevada. There is not a great deal known about Deutsch Brothers Furniture. They were located in Chicago and apparently closed sometime from 1920-1927 due to a bankruptcy that was the result of a fire in their warehouse. It is later noted that Deutsch Brothers were commissioned in 1961 by Jacquelyn Kennedy to design furniture in the Louis XV style for the East Room of the White House. After completion of this project. All details of the pieces were to be destroyed so that no duplicates could be made. My guess is that there were not. This piece, besides the color, appears to be the exact piece ordered by Mrs. Kennedy. It is still on display in the Music Room of The White House. Click the link below to check it out. Condition and Dimensions: The piece was well cared for and looks to have very little to no wear at all. There are no rips. Tears, or staining on any of the fabric at all. Fabric is a pink floral pattern through out with darker pink and gold accent flowers. Not sure the exact type of wood but it is painted all white with gold accents acroos the whole piece. Cushion shows no wear on either side. I provided photos of both sides. Woodwork is solid. No cracking or breaking anywhere. Color is unfaded. Thie piece has been kept in a very dark house and has seen very little light. On a scale of 1 to 10 for condition, 10 being best, I would say this piece is an 8 or 9. This sofa is 53 1/2 inches wide from arm to arm. It measures roughly 33 inches deep from front to back. Seat height is 18 inches. The height is 36 1/2 inches tall along the curved corner areas and 34 inches tall in the middle where the birds are located. The

The cream paint and gilded areas are very good, there is some flaking to the gilding, and the front of the arms that would have received the most wear have seen some over-painting. Giltwood finish appears to be original. It has a fine old patina on the arms where the gilding has worn away. Purchased at auction at Fisher Brothers in New York over 35 years ago. Recently reupholstered in a rich golden fabric with tree leaf and berry motif. There are absolutely no blemishes of any kind to the upholstery. Brass leg caps have a beaded design and wooden wheels. French Louis XV Style Carved and Painted Antique Settee Early 20th Century Item# 130008SIU26 A very attractive antique settee of the French Louis XV taste. This is a lovely piece that exhibits all typical elements of the Rococo movement, but clearly with an angularity that speaks of influence from the Art Deco movement. The frame of the antique French settee is painted in a tarnished silver, this delightfully worn away in well used areas, resulting in a nice growing patina throughout. Resting over the trapezoidal seat back. The crest is carved of the solid with several roses that flow outward into the molded frame with foliage, flanked only by pyramid finials draped in acanthus leafage at each corner. These vary in detail, some parts of the finials being of incredible depth and multiple layers of acanthus, while others are somewhat blurry- ... morethis is likely accounted for by overpainting at one point, where too much paint was used and resulted in a"blurring" of what is likely very fine detail beneath the paint. The arms bend out around the round seat in a highly circular movement, the handholds carved with scaled embellishments along the grip and down the arm support, the paint on these somewhat worn away to reveal the(presumably) beech frame beneath. The legs have robust acanthus leafage flowing from the knee along the frame as they join the seat. Each foot terminating in scrolled toes in the Louis XV manner. For anyone passionate about the Louis XV style in antique seating furniture. This is a simply lovely antique settee to be actively enjoyed. The upholstery should be replaced in our opinion, though it does seem relatively free of stains. Purchased from a NY antiques dealer as an antique. I am uncertain of its exact age. It is VERY heavy and very well made. The upholstery, being an off white silk blend, is in need of cleaning or replacing. It is not original, I reupholstered this sofa when I purchased it. The surface is finished in an extremely attractive and vibrant burnished gilding. The crest is intricately carved with upward sprawling acanthus leafage along the twisted rope-and-ball framing, flowing around the entire outer frame and apron of the canapé. The acanthus leafage is repeated throughout, flowing down the handholds, climbing up the arm supports, lifting the medallion back and draping from the turned legs. Each portion of the canapé is handsomely embellished. The sofa retains a later silk upholstery, this mellowed and soft to the eye from years of use, but remains in"good" condition ... morewith only minor discolorations. They connect to the bottom frame of the sofa(also of walnut) which has a carved floral motif in the front center. With smaller floral rosette like carvings topping the 2 front feet. The frame has a minimal amount of carvings but has curvy/wavy woodwork, reminiscent of the Louis XV style. This is a genuine Karpen Bros french style mahogany sofa in very good condition. All the trim and frame are undamaged and the material is in decent shape for its age.I researched this piece after discovering the name Karpen Brothers Huntington Park,Ca under the frame and this would indicate it was built around 1930. It has 6 cushions and is covered in a beige striped silk blend with blush rose colored rose buds. a very nice material that should be dry cleaned not steam cleaned to prevent damage to the material there is some signs of wear and dinginess to the arms and some fraying to the binding on one of the cushions but otherwise no tears and no stains I was told by my aunt and grandmother that it had been appraised to be valued around $4500-5000 by an Antique furniture expert in L.A.at least 25 yrs ago.
