C. 1900-15 Item# 130001KKG27 This is a very fine French Louis XVI Style Antique Settee with Gilded Carved surfaces. Crafted during the first years of the 20th Century at the end of the Rococo Revival period, c. 1900-15. It is an exceptional piece in every way, the molding work on every exposed surface is simply above reproach. The crest rail is bowed with an unusual carved design at the apex, lifting in swirls and actually flowing up and over the back of the settee. This is flanked on each corner with highly detailed acorn finials over floral carvings that fall along the stiles. The arms are likewise decorated, the handholds with carved acanthus leaves, the arm supports with scaled molding over acanthus foliage at the knees. The modern upholstery ... moreis a soft yellow with collections of fruits and foliage throughout, a comfortable stuffed back and a somewhat more supportive and firm seat. The apron of the antique french settee is a complex infiniti-motif closed on each end with swirled-rosettes at the knees. The entire sofa resting over twist-turned tapered legs terminating in plain ball feet. This is a very fine antique french settee. Crafted entirely by hand with utmost precision and care during an important revival of the French styles. With a wealth of demand for revivals of the 18th Century works, many very high quality pieces were renewed during this era, much of it brought into the States to satisfy the significant demand of discerning clients during the period. French Louis XV Style Carved and Painted Antique Settee Early 20th Century Item# 130008SIU26 A very attractive antique settee of the French Louis XV taste. This is a lovely piece that exhibits all typical elements of the Rococo movement, but clearly with an angularity that speaks of influence from the Art Deco movement. The frame of the antique French settee is painted in a tarnished silver, this delightfully worn away in well used areas, resulting in a nice growing patina throughout. Resting over the trapezoidal seat back. The crest is carved of the solid with several roses that flow outward into the molded frame with foliage, flanked only by pyramid finials draped in acanthus leafage at each corner. These vary in detail, some parts of the finials being of incredible depth and multiple layers of acanthus, while others are somewhat blurry- ... morethis is likely accounted for by overpainting at one point, where too much paint was used and resulted in a"blurring" of what is likely very fine detail beneath the paint. The arms bend out around the round seat in a highly circular movement, the handholds carved with scaled embellishments along the grip and down the arm support, the paint on these somewhat worn away to reveal the(presumably) beech frame beneath. The legs have robust acanthus leafage flowing from the knee along the frame as they join the seat. Each foot terminating in scrolled toes in the Louis XV manner. For anyone passionate about the Louis XV style in antique seating furniture. This is a simply lovely antique settee to be actively enjoyed. The upholstery should be replaced in our opinion, though it does seem relatively free of stains. The frame is heavily carved solid walnut beneath a light layer of gesso and is covered in an oxidized and worn gilding. Carved in the typical Louis XVI manner. The frame is molded with rope carvings around the entirety of it and is crested by a twisted ribbon wreath. Resting over tapered and fluted legs and terminating in balled stumps, the settee remains incredibly sturdy and strong; it is very comfortable and supportive for lounging and relaxing, despite having been designed primarily as a stunning decorative work. C. 1910-40 Item# 130012KYW02 Hand crafted and carved in the first half of the 20th Century. This wonderful antique recamier is the epitome of charm. With a delightful mellowed brown velvet covering, which in our opinion is in quite nice condition for it's age and certainly not something we would consider changing(though it does have minor discolorations and blemishes here and there, none particularly noteworthy) it is of a perfect tone to blend well with most interiors; the worn painted surface and tonal warmth bring a certain magnetism to the settee. The simple carved and molded frame flows around the settee very naturally, the arms wrapping ... morearound to hug the deeply upholstered cushion; the entire form rests over turned and tapered stop-fluted legs in the French taste, terminating in plain ball toes. It is an outstanding find for decorators and anyone passionate about the French taste in furnishings. Sturdy and strong. It is a comfortable piece for regular relaxed enjoyment in any formal room in the home. Measurements: 78" wide x 28" deep x 33" high at highest point of the crest; 19" high to cushion; seating area is 22" deep x 66" wide Condition Report: Heavily worn gray painted surface. Leaving much of the gesso and underlying frame exposed- however, we do find the wear attractive and would not suggest any work be done to restore it as it is rather endearing. Flaking paint in some areas. Very sturdy and strong throughout. Upholstery is mellowed, dusty and with some discoloration/blemishes. Antique French Sofa/Settee More than 100 years old
100 Years old. Came over from France. Re-covered in the early 2000's. It is as original as it can be. This piece is history and beautiful and makes for a great looking decorator piece. Normally, I sell mostly Designer clothing that came from my Italian and Spanish apartments, see attached pictures) which are now closed. Since I retired and am more or less handicapped, stairs and too much walking are a problem, we sold our 4,000 sq. ft. home and have gone into an apartment. needless to say we are cramped for space.
