The acanthus leafage is repeated throughout, flowing down the handholds, climbing up the arm supports, lifting the medallion back and draping from the turned legs. This Louis XVI style canape(late 1800s) with caned seat and back comes with a custom down cushion which makes this piece very comfortable. The down cushion is covered in white cotton fabric that looks great alone or it can be covered in silk. Embellished with an attractive mix of details carved of solid wood offset by gesso decorations under a burnished gilding. The open arm supports are delicately carved with a deep and robust acanthus carving, this furling over at the top in lifelike realism.
