The library and its furnishings were built and created in 1959-1960. The interior also featured Florence Knoll chairs and tables. This Mid Century. Architecturally inspired sofa is extremely unusual in that it has a"pull-out" feature that creates a deeper seating area or daybed for one. Seldom seen. We spoke with the librarian at the location, who had been there for 30+ years, and were told that the chairs and sofa had been recovered in the late 1970's. It measures 76" long, 28" high, seat is 30" deep and 36" when extended. The pull out feature works smoothly. The seat cushion is not attached. It has a square tubular brushed chrome and steel frame and legs and light blue tweed fabric. There is a frayed area on the front bottom right corner of the bottom platform and there is some minor discoloration but it has not been steamed cleaned. This is a rare hand carved living room set. It has been determined to be from the 1920's original and not a reproduction. It is exquisite in detail and craftsmanship. It is made from mahogany wood. It has an incredible elephant design. Includes a bench 2 chairs and a side table. The bench/sofa measures 5 ft 11 inches long by 27 1/2 inches wide by 34.5 inches at the highest point. The table measures 20 inches wide by 18 inches high. It has a glass covering for it but will need replaced. the chairs(2) measure 27 inches across 34.5 inches high and 27 inches wide. 1940s 40s 1950s Tiki Sofa 3 Band Rattan Art Frankl Era Sun Living Room Tropical
Fantastic Tiki Rattan Sofa. Made by the“Rattan Art” company in the Philippines sometime in the 1930s to the 1960s. Most likely in the post war 1945 to 1950 era(American GIs returning from the Pacific) There is a very similar set briefly pictured in the first hospital scene in 1945’s Christmas in Connecticut. The sofa has seen a good bit of use over the many years but is still in good condition. Wrapping and lacquer isn't perfect in a few places as pictured and this is reflected in price. Zipper is broken on one cushion, and personally I'd replace all of them the covers were replaced sometime in the past. I have a matching set of chairs and magazine rack also for sale on ebay.
