Antique Black Settee Bench on Casters Re-Covered in EXCELLENT Condition
Gorgeous Older Vintage-Antique Settee/Loveseat Bench This is a beautifully Re-covered Wooden(Back. Legs, Arms, Etc are all solid wood) Bench Quite old. Although am not sure of the exact age The piece is on small solid metal casters Bottom of piece is covered in black guazy fabric(like lawn) which was commonly used in older eras such as the early 1900's Cushion also seems to e spring style(although if I hadn't had many pieces that were I wouldn't know it from the feel of the top) The top of the cushion is smooth. Not bumpy at all, If it has springs that are strung, none of the strings could be broken. The piece is in excellent condition. Doesn't wobble, It is slightly(very slightly) delicate- ONLY because it of course has slender legs, spindles etc- otherwise it is amazingly sturdy- If you have owned pieces with casters before, ... moreyou know the casters can somewhat add to the seeming'shaky' effect of old pieces, even if they are not shaky. I had the casters off when working on this pieces and was amazed at how sturdy the joints, spindles, etc were on it. That being said. I wouldn't want children jumping or lying on it: I actually don't like kids doing that on anything old I own however though: This would be a beautiful photo prop. Crafted during the Edwardian Period after the English Regency forms of the 19th Century. Painted in the manner of the Adam's brothers, the frame is a warm maroon with a painted crest over two oval cane back panels. Each panel has a painted plaque centermost depicting landscape scenes of mountainous terrain. Softly arched arms curve around the seat and join the frame with painted corners of books surrounded by foliage. The removable cushion is tufted and rests over a caned seat. This is a very beautiful victorian gossip bench! It has magnificent carvings all over and would look great in any home in just about any room or hallway. I cannot say exactly how old it is. But it is definitely many decades. Has small scuff/tear in bottom back side as seen in pictures. I believe it was probably recovered at some point, but I do not know. Also, the white portion of the handle is busted, but can easily be replaced if you choose to do so. Very minor issues in comparison to the elegant beauty this piece brings. Vintage settee~ gossip bench~good shape~Lots of potential, beautuful piece
This beautiful settee would make a great piece in any home with a little TLC. Take a look at pictures buying as is. It does need the bottom fixed from years of use it needs to be re supported as you can see from the pictures, there are a few places on the bottom where the wood has splintered, and the seat has sagged from sitting on it, Also the right arm does have a few small marks on it. But this bench has great potential it would look absolutely beautiful refinished. I believe the wood is mahogany but I am not 100% sure about that, it has very ornate detailing in the wood carving. The fabric is still in great shape if you wanted to re use it, it just needs tacked down a few places like on the seat. I believe it is very old if you look very closely at the detail there are small variations which means it would not have been machine made but ... morewould have been hand made. It measures almost 4 feet in length and about 3 feet high and about 18 inches in depth. The settee features and elaborate carved back crowned with a scallop shell design. The arms and legs have sinuous curved shapes. This piece is in good to very good condition with minor wear to the wood. But no significant breaks or visible repairs. The upholstery on the seat has faded somewhat, especially on the left side and has some water spots as well. The settee stands 39" tall and measures 36 1/4" wide and about 22" deep. The piano stool was manufactured by Merriam& Co of South Acton. MA. The stool has been carved with knobs and scroll-like designs reminiscent of Eastlake style. Profusely Carved Antique Italian Settee Bench Sofa Carved Faces, Birds, More WOW
Here's a Great Highly Carved Italian Settee Perfect for a Hall. Living Room or at the End of a Bed. The piece was hand carved in Italy around 1920 and is in Good Condition with age appropriate wear. The finish is lighter in the high spots which to me adds to the appearance and speaks to the age of the settee. The one finial on the back is missing the very top point. That finial and the center top carved piece are held in place by dowels and lift off so they need to be re glued. I would have done that but it will be safer to transport it with them off. It will not require any clamping, just some wood glue in the holes where the dowels fit. Of course there are some scrapes and dings but nothing that I see as distracting. The cushion has older upholstery which works if it's your style. The settee measures approximately 57 and 3/8" ... morelong, 22" deep, and about 33 and 3/4" in height. This lovely and unique Settee would be a wonderful addition to any refined home. I recommend Plycon Van Lines for delivery, you can find them with a quick google search.
