This is a stunning full set of Louis XVI Style Parlor pieces, composed of four arm chairs and a single canapé. The gilded gesso molded frame is exquisite, formed flawlessly to create a complex array of blended acanthus foliage making up the entire frame, culminating in the crest with a full floral arrangement over vines and leaves. The apron of each is multi-dimensions of twisted rope, again interlaced with unique floral designs. The acanthus form is favored throughout, represented heavily in the carved handholds, the stiles below the velvet medallion backs of each chair and where the arm supports join the seats. Antique Vintage Baroque ? Sofa and Arm Chair
Antique sofa and arm chair which I believe are in the Baroque style but not 100% on that.They came from a elderly ladies estate. She is 104 years old. I think the upholstery is from the late 60s. The sofas upholstery is in good condition but the chair has wear on the right arm. They are both very solid and heavy will last another 70 or so years. Fabulous vintage carved roses framed open arm sofa finished in a brown bronze gilded finish ~ beautiful 2 inch roses adorn the entire frame including all across the back. Arms, skirting, and legs ~ all of the carved roses are elevated gracefully around the frame and peak at the back middle as well as a smaller peak at each back side ~ there are 4 cabriole curvy legs at the front and 2 at the back side ~ an additional middle leg for support has been added at the middle back– this piece was once secured against a wall perhaps in a large foyer or parlor and still has the third leg in the back as well as a protective felt piece against the back top towards the carving and two small pieces of wire where someone had extra secured the French Sofa– it is very sturdy and comfortable but the extra pieces could be removed if you wanted the piece to ... morebe placed not against a wall ~ upholstered in a soft gold and creamy beige brocade with French Swirls throughout and matching two toned braid covers all of the upholstered edges ~ the back has covered buttons neatly situated at 12 inch intervals creating a great finish effect and the covering underneath the cushion is buttoned as well ~ the cushion is very curvy and at the front middle, the depth is 22.5 inches-overall depth is approximately 25 inches ~ 45.5 inches from the floor to the tip of the roses crest at the middle and 70 and 3/4 inches at the widest area from arm to arm ~ there is minimal wear to the gilded paint and this is just a most pretty and interesting piece ~ great elegant look as it is or how Romantic Chic this would be with a white or cream painted frame ~ so many possibilities! ~ I see no problems at all with the gorgeous existing fabric!
