Antique Duncan Phyfe Sofa 1940s Original Owner Excellent Condition
This is a Duncan Phyfe sofa from the 1940s which has been in my family since that time. I have owned it for over 35 years(my grandmother had it before then) I have had it reupholstered twice during that time. It is in excellent condition. The current upholstery is a Robert Allen chenille fabric in a beige/taupe pattern that mixes and matches with everything from traditional prints and stripes to contemporary decor. I've used it in all of these settings. The upholstery is in excellent condition- no rips. Tears, stains, or odors- foam was all replaced and the sofa has been barely used. Any shading of the fabric seen on the photos is the result of the nap of the fabric, which, when rubbed in one direction will look slightly different. The wood trim is in good condition- probably has some minor scuffs. But nothing so noticeable that it would ... moredetract from the look or use of the sofa. Wood legs are solid. One leg was broken off in the reupholstery process but was professionally repaired. The sofa is solid and sturdy, and quite comfortable for naps! The sofa measures 80" in length; is 33" wide. Height to the top of the back is 32" height to the top of the arm is 26" I love that this sofa is much smaller than today's sofa monsters. It's difficult to find a smaller profile in sofas today. I am offering this sofa at a very reasonable price in the hopes it will find another great home that will love it and care for it as much as our family has. This antique sofa is probably a Revival Duncan Phyfe as the detailing is more reserved. It's less ornate so I'm guessing it dates from the 1920's or 30's. It was used very little the previous owner told me. He acquired it after his elderly mother had died and we have not used it regularly either. Now I have acquired my Grandmother's sofa so I am selling this one. I've been told that this style is not meant for everyday use. That the legs are not a as supportive as other furniture- they are shaped for style rather than strength, so you may not be interested in it. The 2 front legs have been repaired by me.
