A selection for any interior designer or home owner looking to bring the nostalgia and charm only found in the patina and form from the 18th Century. It is a form known as a double-back settee. Crafted in the George III Chippendale style from elements of 18th Century pieces to bring that natural depth and warmth. The crest flows with a soft serpentine over pierced bell-bottom splats. Terminating at each corner in sharp pointed ears over inward curved stiles that flow directly into the slightly canted back feet. The slip seat is trapezoidal in shape, a geometrical stitched upholstery of period design covering the frame, flanked on either side by curving arms. ... moreThe entire design rests over three square front legs locked together with a box-form stretcher. C. 1900-15 Item# 130001KKG27 This is a very fine French Louis XVI Style Antique Settee with Gilded Carved surfaces. Crafted during the first years of the 20th Century at the end of the Rococo Revival period, c. 1900-15. It is an exceptional piece in every way, the molding work on every exposed surface is simply above reproach. The crest rail is bowed with an unusual carved design at the apex, lifting in swirls and actually flowing up and over the back of the settee. This is flanked on each corner with highly detailed acorn finials over floral carvings that fall along the stiles. The arms are likewise decorated, the handholds with carved acanthus leaves, the arm supports with scaled molding over acanthus foliage at the knees. Beautiful hand carved French Provincial small-scale settee. The beautiful wood frame is painted glossy black. With yellow velvet upholstery offset with tack trim. Truly one of a kind antique. High quality carving and craftsmanship. It's very sturdy and good for everyday use. Quite comfortable with a down cushion. Totally elegant and charming! This is the perfect piece for a smaller space: apartment living rooms. Entryways, the hall, a dressing room or bedroom. I don't know exact age, but antique/vintage. Possibly 1920's. The elaborately carved wooden frame is in excellent condition, quite strong, with no visible cracks, chips, dents or gouges. Pieces like this.
