The sofa measures. 72” Long/ 29” Tall/ 36” deep(front to back) 53” from inside armrest to inside armrest. There are a few condition issues with the sofa. There is one button missing on the front of the seat. It needs to be re-set back down. Along with one other button cover missing from the armrest. See pictures. There are a few wear spots around the sofa. Mostly on the seat cushion. See pictures. There is a light mark on the bottom part of the back of the sofa. See picture. There is some dust/ dirt in the holes where the buttons are. Ive gotten most of it out. But you need a small brush or something similar to get it all out. Overall. The suite boasts a lovely curved shape from the back into the sweeping scroll arms. The suite features a central floral carved walnut shaped splat and at the corners of the couch are step-downs. Which are typical of the Art Deco period. The base of the suite features a brass-studded frame and below the suite descends onto decorative bun feet at the front and sabre legs to the rear. Stepping away from 18th century British Prime Ministers. The Bluhme takes its name from the Christian Albrecht Bluhme, Danish PM 1853-1854. Bluhme's most famous acknowledgement was his leadership of Denmark during the latter part of the Second Schleswig War. Our Bluhme is a brilliantly adaptable Chesterfield. It is named after the 1st Earl of Wilmington. More humbly known as Spencer Compton, who led Britain for just short of 18 months. The piece is named after Charles Watson-Wentworth. The 2nd Marquee of Rockingham. He served in only two high offices during his lifetime(Prime Minister and Leader of the House of Lords) but was nonetheless very influential during his one and a half years of service. One of Watson-Wentworth's biggest influences actually came in his second stint at the helm when he oversaw the abolishment of The Relief of the Poor Act 1782. This saw the creation of Unions and Civil Parishes, later officially called'unions under Gilbert's Act' to provide outdoor relief and set up workhouses. We like to think that our camel back Rockingham sofa metaphorically encaptures ... morethe ups and downs of his leadership. However. Of course, it has to be said that there's an awful lot of inspiration drawn from the hugely talented Thomes Chippendale in this piece too. The Vintage CHESTERFIELD SOFA HAND DYED true vintage LEATHER The Vintage Chesterfield sofa is a timeless. Marquee Chesterfield with all the hallmarks of crafting tradition. You may have established that the majority of our pieces are named after historical British Prime Ministers. but not this one. the Vintage Chesterfield is cleverly named- or so we think- due to the fact that is was modelled on a true vintage design(pictured) The Vintage Chesterfield matched the original. 80-year-old piece inch for inch, diamond for diamond, button for button. we even managed to replicate the old rusty legs and using a secret OSC ingredient. We fashioned out rustic, worn steel casters. The original Chesterfield was made in the early 20th Century and recently sold on Christie's auctions in excess of £14,000 alongside two vintage club chairs. The ... morebuyer wanted a second suite to match his stunning purchase, but to find something of the same style from that period was unlikely, so we were asked to craft a replica. And, well, that's what we did. Internally. This Manner 2( for more information on our crafting manners) has the same solid beechwood frame. Same fully coil sprung arms, back and seat, the same horse hair filling and hand dyed leather. To create the worn, 1900s feel, we hand dyed our replica piece initially with yellow before applying a second coat of chestnut brown, and a final layer of elephant grey. The process produced a finish that was not only original, but incredibly warm and satisfying. Our Vintage Chesterfield looked historical and in the crafting, it had all the hallmarks of a true Chesterfield should. The Vintage Chesterfield has a the typically low back and arms synonymous with crafting history. And with a the fully buttoned seat, there really is left no stone unturned in becoming the perfect 20th century Replica Chesterfield. For the Decorative. Rare& Unusual“Those who find beautiful meanings in beautiful things are the cultivated. For these there is hope. Oscar Wilde A Good c.1930 Art Deco Period Leather Club Sofa Period: Art Deco Provenance: Unknown Date: c.1925-35 Height: 31.5 inches Width: 62 inches Depth: 36 inches(all at maximum) The early twentieth century quality leather and close studwork upholstered two-seater sofa. Hailing from the Art Deco period, having cigar shaped arms, the whole of deep and roomy proportions sitting on Deco inspired angular fanned feet. In what we like to describe as‘country house condition’ The sofa is in fair to good overall condition. She does not require re-springing or any major structural repairs and she is sturdy and with no replacement parts. The leather to the whole is of good quality and is worn, but appealingly so, ... morenow wonderfully supple. There are old patches and three tears present to include one to the lower front, four to her back, two of which are patched and one area of peel to a shoulder. Although none of the tears are too detrimental to the whole, indeed they could be repaired, she is suitably priced to reflect these imperfections. The word"club" in club chair harks back to the gentlemen's clubs in nineteenth century England where a gentleman could go to get away from his household(including womenfolk) Once there. He would sink into a well-upholstered leather chair and relax with a drink and perhaps a cigar. The names of the fashionable London streets full of such clubs are still used to name classic club chairs: St. James, Piccadilly and so on. A dictionary definition of a club chair or sofa is"A heavily upholstered piece of furniture with arms and a low back" Art deco club chairs and sofas became popular and are particularly associated with France, although in the French tradition, these may be more formal and less bouncy than chairs from Britain or the USA. Rosebery Chesterfield SOFA HAND DYED RICH CHESTNUT BROWN LEATHER Larger than life. Our gracious Rosebery sofa is glamorous, curvy and elegant all in one sentence. The sofa lends its title from the 5th Earl of Rosebery. Archibald Primrose. Unlike our magnificent Chesterfield sofa, Primrose was the best of a bad bunch when appointed PM in 1894, according to Queen Victoria at least. Subsequently, Rosebery's government was largely unsuccessful. His designs in foreign policy, such as expansion of the fleet, were defeated by disagreements within the Liberal Party, while the Unionist-dominated House of Lords stopped the whole of the Liberals' domestic legislation. Vintage brown leather Chesterfield sofa - beautifully worn in
I just bought this beautiful brown leather Chesterfield for a client at auction. And now she wants a green sofa. It came out of an old estate in Upstate New York. It does not look like one of those shiny new couches- this one has an amazing patina and gorgeous detail work. There is a small tear in the front(as seen in photos) but this is an easy fix for a leather repair/upholsterer. Then again, many people like the worn look and would prefer for it to remain as is(without the tape, of course) I was looking around for other Chesterfields like this on Ebay. And other comparable ones are selling for $3500- $5000. I would keep it, but I would rather just make some money back in order to purchase the sofa that my client wants. Really, this is a steal. Vintage Danish Rosewood framed 3 seat sofa with original leather cushions. This is an Illum Wikkelso design from 1959. Capella" Model no.4(without leather side panels) produced by Niels Eilerson. It is in excellent condition. Minimal wear or damage to the frame given its age, the most noticeable exception being a small dent on the left arm, please see photos. The leather cushions are original and have faded patina/ creases which i see as attractive however they could be polished or treated. Re-upholstered if you wished. There are no tears or rips so very useable as they are. Hi We are selling our beautiful sofa. There is nothing wrong with it but we came across a set of mid-century chairs + sofas so we decided to sell this one as our flat is not big enough for two sofas. This sofa is bought second hand so I am putting the details the seller gave us in this description. It is not an original Borge Mogensen but a good quality reproduction from the 1970ies. The leather do of course have a few marks but for a second hand item I would say it is in excellent condition and age adds to the charm of an item like this. It is a 2-seater and the measurements are width(150 cm) height(65 cm) and depth(78 cm) We are not professional sellers and we do not have a car so the buyer will need to arrange delivery.
