The sofa still retains its original horse hair stuffing which is covered in a navy blue material. As you can tell the sofa is missing some veneer and ornamental applique pieces. Being offered for sale is this Fancy Early Victorian Carved Walnut Settee with Magnificent Carved Grapes circa 1865. This splendid 19th century settee features fabulous detailed carving of grapes& leaves on the triple serpentine crest-rail with highly carved arm supports and a triple serpentine seat-rail with a cluster of grapes at the center with brass casters intact on the feet. This settee measures 40 3/4 inches high from the floor to the top of the back center.With a total length of 66 1/2 inches, seat width of 47 inches and seat depth of 19 inches with a seat height to the floor of 17 inches and this settee weighs approximately 75 lbs. Vintage sage green velvet fabric is in wonderful vintage condition with no tears or rips but could use a gentle cleaning here and there. Rare Old Hickory Settee Adirondack Sofa Circa 1930's
This is an outstanding circa 1930's rustic Hickory Settee made by the prison inmates in the Putnamville Prison Farm in Putnamville. Indiana. The settee is made of hickory and retains the original natural finish. It has the original beautiful herringbone pattern woven willow seat. The settee is in excellent original condition. The seat is also in excellent condition except for a few very minor weavings that are missing. This piece has a wonderful old patina. It is a rare piece from our private collection. Height-33 1/2" Width-46" This piece is featured on page 89 in the State of Indiana Putnamville Indiana Furniture catalog of the 1930's. This catalog is featured in The collected Works of Indiana Hickory Furniture Makers by author Ralph Kylloe. From Mr. Kylloe's book. As mentioned earlier, the State of Indiana also had ... morea significant influence on the hickory furniture movement.The prison catalogue printed herein suggests that many of the pieces that were originally thought to have been made by the commercial companies were actually constructed by inmates at the State Farm in Putnamville. What is interested is that many of their designs demonstrate significant aesthetic appreciation and construction innovation. The special chair and rocker,gliders, leanbacks, chaise lounges, benches, and beds for example, have long been recognized as innovative contributions to the hickory furniture movement and are highly sought after by dealers and collectors. The prison started making hickory in 1929, just prior to the stock market crash. The furniture was sold to other state agencies and exhibited at many of the state parks including the Abe Martin Lodge in Brown County State Park in Nashville, Indiana. Emphasis, on the part of the prison, was never mass production of its furniture, so large quantities were not shipped from the prison. Their pieces were noted for careful construction and attention to detail.

Gently rounded sleigh arms meet at the sofa's back and curve down to the seating area. A straight back goes into gracious curves to meet the arms. Empire provencial styling is prominent. R ich mahogany wood embellished with plenty of hand carved detailing. Brass. Hand-hammered nails used. Rich. Heavy weight jacquard upholstery with medium wine and gold accent color pattern. Antique 3 piece Caned Bergere Suite circa 1920. I am moving back to Europe and unfortunately cannot take this sofa suite back with me. I purchased this item in London at auction on February 20th. 2001 for 900 pounds sterling and I had it shipped to the US with a lot of other furniture that I purchased. The auctioneers estimate was 800- 1,200 pounds, so I got a good deal on it. Including the auction commission/ freight. In current dollars, my cost was approx. $2,000 for this item. The auctioneer was the esteemed Bonhams. As I am leaving. I am looking to recover a lot less than this- great deal for you! I have included in the images the original listing from the auction catalog. As well as the description, estimate, and price that we paid at the time for verification purposes. From auction catalog: A mahogany three piece caned Bergere suite. ... moreCirca 1920. I can. Therefore, state that this item is circa 1920. The sofa and chairs comprise a solid mahogany frame. With cane backing and arms, and the original cushions. I am not sure what the cushions are made of as I have never opened them, but they are not plush and fluffy, rather more solid. The sofa and chair are supported by clawfoot bulbous feet. The cane is in good shape. As is the wood. The feet are solid. However, there are a couple of wood blocks at the corners that have come loose and have been glued back. Overall structure is very solid and sturdy. The three seat sofa measures 69 inches long. By 37 inches deep, by 32 inches high at the highest point. Each cushion on the sofa(three total) measures 20 1/2 inches. For total 61 1/2 sitting area. The two chairs are the same. They measure 30 inches wide. By 37 inches deep, and 32 inches high. We originally purchased this sofa suite for our indoor porch. But have since used them in other rooms. Beautiful Wicker Sofa Circa 1920 NR
You are bidding on: A beautiful antique wicker sofa circa 1920- would make a truly lovely addition to any covered patio or sunroom. Structural condition is excellent- no repairs needed. The matching floral fabric on the sofa and pillows has no rips. Tears or stains. It does need to be cleaned and repainted. Some of the feet could use minor repairs to the wicker if desired, but they do not present any problem in using the sofa. Professionally evaluated recently at $400. in current condition, before improvements. Local pickup only(DFW area) or buyer can make personal arrangements for delivery/expense. Thanks for looking.

Romantic Vintage Sofa Circa 1930s
Elegant vintage sofa has beautiful lines and is upholstered in a salmon/gold colored brocade with matching salmon colored velvet. Arms are tufted an feature olive green tassels. Tassels also on back of sofa. Includes 6 coordinating. Reversible throw pillows in velvet, damask and gold. There are 5 tufted buttons that are missing the caps. Can provide fabric for repair.
