A selection for any interior designer or home owner looking to bring the nostalgia and charm only found in the patina and form from the 18th Century. It is a form known as a double-back settee. Crafted in the George III Chippendale style from elements of 18th Century pieces to bring that natural depth and warmth. The crest flows with a soft serpentine over pierced bell-bottom splats. Terminating at each corner in sharp pointed ears over inward curved stiles that flow directly into the slightly canted back feet. The crest rail is bowed with an unusual carved design at the apex, lifting in swirls and actually flowing up and over the back of the settee. This is flanked on each corner with highly detailed acorn finials over floral carvings that fall along the stiles. The arms are likewise decorated, the handholds with carved acanthus leaves, the arm supports with scaled molding over acanthus foliage at the knees. Crafted entirely by hand with utmost precision and care during an important revival of the French styles. The frame is heavily carved solid walnut beneath a light layer of gesso and is covered in an oxidized and worn gilding. Carved in the typical Louis XVI manner. I have a sofa and a loveseat from the 1920's-1940's. Not exactly sure when they were produced. But I am sure on the era. I have had these two for five years and are in excellent condition. The cushions are separated and may be washed. The wood on the couches can be refinished. But I left them because this is a rare piece of furniture. I am giving them up because I am moving out of the country. And I can't take these two with me. So, hopefully someone will give them a great home. I know someone who loves vintage or antique finds. Beautiful hand carved French Provincial small-scale settee. The beautiful wood frame is painted glossy black. With yellow velvet upholstery offset with tack trim. Truly one of a kind antique. High quality carving and craftsmanship. It's very sturdy and good for everyday use. Quite comfortable with a down cushion. Totally elegant and charming! This depression era Victorian antique loveseat is stuffed with horse hair. I was told it was from the 1920's and reupholstered in the 1930's. This was a family heirloom. The color is faded in places. And there are some stains. There do not seem to be tears or outright damage, other than minor wear from moving. Please review the photos. The feet are on original small casters.
