Up for auction is a set of vintage six strand rattan living room or sun room furniture consisting of one sectional couch or sofa. Two chairs, and an ottoman. The sectional couch has three pieces but the middle piece could stand alone as another chair, and the couch could be reduced to a loveseat. The overall condition is good. But used. All pieces could use refinishing and some repair to the caning, but they are sturdy and look fine with cushions. The couch or sofa has reproduction bark cloth cushions(that match another rattan armchair I have for sale right now) and the chairs and ottoman have contemporary cushions. This three-piece 75-inch wide sectional couch has its original funky tulip upholstery. Each section is 24” wide; the seats are 15.5” high with the cushions; the backs are 35” high. The couch comes with a 33”x19.5” coffee table and two 28”x13”side tables. The upholstery on the couch is very worn; needs replacing. The coffee table and side tables are sturdy and in good condition. Hand crafted rattan and mahogany. 6 band rattan arms. The cushioning appears to be coiled spring type wrapped in cotton batting. Vinyl upholstery. Most of these pieces retain their original decal label. Circa 1940s. Philippines. I recently acquired this group from the estate of the original owner. All sides of all pieces are represented in the photos. See my other auctions for the matching sideboard/ cabinet I acquired along with this group. CONDITION: This set requires reupholstery and some restoration to the rattan joint binding but is otherwise in very good. All original condition. RATTAN CHAIR FRAMES: Some of the rattan joint binding is loose in places and missing altogether at a few joints. All of this is documented in the photos. Most noticeably. Both of the armless chairs are absent some rattan joint binding where the rear seat is attached to the base of the back rest. 1940s 40s 1950s Tiki Sofa 3 Band Rattan Art Frankl Era Sun Living Room Tropical
Fantastic Tiki Rattan Sofa. Made by the“Rattan Art” company in the Philippines sometime in the 1930s to the 1960s. Most likely in the post war 1945 to 1950 era(American GIs returning from the Pacific) There is a very similar set briefly pictured in the first hospital scene in 1945’s Christmas in Connecticut. The sofa has seen a good bit of use over the many years but is still in good condition. Wrapping and lacquer isn't perfect in a few places as pictured and this is reflected in price. Zipper is broken on one cushion, and personally I'd replace all of them the covers were replaced sometime in the past. I have a matching set of chairs and magazine rack also for sale on ebay.
